The guy didn't say whether or not he has the component cable hooked up to the Wii or is using straight RCA composites or S-video for both, however I believe it may be the TVs/Wii's scaler and the component cables if he is using them.

Actually he did say what his connection was...

The N64 is tied to the TV via s-video while the Wii is a composite source (my component cables are on back-order - damn you, Nintendo)
I haven't seen the pictures yet, but I would imagine that it will look better. Looking forward to playing some SM64, Zelda:OOT, and some other classics.

EDIT: Pictures finally loaded, and it does look a good bit better with wii emulation.

is it possible they used the updated Mario 64 they put on DS?...I think they might have cleaned it up a bit because the DS version looks great.
BTW virtual console...since when did that work?....last I checked it was offline...must go look sometime tonight.

EDIT: Yup the shopping channel is working, the prices arn't that great though...it's about $10 for a N64 game and about $5 for the other consoles. Although there are a few games maybe worth picking up, particularly N64.

Looking at the difference in the pictures, now that they loaded. I see the edges smoothed out on the Wii version, definately noticable. I'm think maybe the Wii has some extra AA and AF that the N64 didn't and that is what the difference is.

Probably the same as when I emulate a n64 game on my PC. It looks better because I am able to run AA/AF at max making the rough edges appear much smoother.

The old game buying option is tempting me to get a Wii very soon. Everyone I talk to says its mad fun to play.

I don't think they'd need to :)

Old N64 games can indeed be played at a much higher resolution, with lots of eye candy.

Some of these old games look INCREDIBLE on a PC... Conker's Bad Fur Day, Banjo Kazooie, and Donkey Kong 64 in particular have very nice high resolution textures that look very modern and slick with a good graphics card.

Here's a shot from a PC emulator with AF and AA maxed out:

I'd heard rumors that they were tweaking the games a bit for the VC, I have yet to get any for mine though, I will soon. I wouldn't complain at all if they updated some of them. Though, IMO, in it's time, Mario 64 was gorgeous.

I wouldnt be suprised if it looks better. PC emulators look way better than the original at least for the n64

True, but that's not quite fair, because you can constantly upgrade a PC's ability to output prettier graphics. You can't easily do it with an older console. Most N64 games were gorgeous by standards for their time, and some were even above the standard. OoT was beautiful and still is, M64 was gorgeous and still is. But what I liked about those N64 games was not only the graphics, but also the immersiveness of the games, the game play and also the music. OoT and M64 had some pretty awesome music.

Well whoever buys a VC game make a post about it. I'm debating getting one just to experience what it's like but I don't know if there are any games I really want up yet for $5...since you can emulate all of them on PC. Maybe zelda though...since playing TP I'm in a zelda type of mood.

I've got some games off of Xbox Live like Pac-Man, Galaga, Dig Gug, Robotron, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. They're great because you don't have to go and dig out a cartridge, mess with another TV and all that stuff to play an old game, plus the graphics are ARCADE quality, not 2600, Genesis or Super Nintendo Quality. Add the fact that you can play against other people or co-op over LIVE and it's great!!!

The Wii, however will have games that are console emulated ie: If you get Mortal Kombat it'll probably be the N64 version and not the Arcade version. Whether or not you can play against others online, I don't know.
