lookin to get some things in order before i get my Wii and i was wonderin, in the specs it says it can connect to the internet over Wireless 802.11b/g and via USB LAN.

now the USB lan, can i use any USB lan adaptor or a special USB lan adaptor?

i honestly don't know if you can use a 3rd part USB lan adaptor or not...

BUT, you CAN use the Nintendo WiFi adaptor thats used for the DS. It just plugs into a USB port on your PC. run it, configure it. have the wii look for the Adaptor, Set access to granted for the wii through the adaptor on your PC, and your done.

thats what i'm doing. We have wireless here in the house, but my room is made of concrete, and i get HORRIBLE reception in my room. so far, the USB wifi dongle is working pretty good.

Eh, Just another option for ya.

This is not the EXACT same thing but I had a pretty hard time connecting my Girlfriend's DS to my wireless router [WGT624 v.2]. According to to nintendowifi.com, my router "Rarely connects successfuly to the service." I hooked it up in about 20 minutes after doing a simple firmware update to the router. It has never disconnected since the initial setup.

I was @ GameStop earlier today, and some kid walks in saying "Roadrunner blocked my router." I told him that the security must be WEP, and it has to be the very first "key" that you use. All of this is for the DS, but I'm guessing that it's the same for Wii.

i wanna stay away from wireless, quite a bit of interference here and i trust wired more any way

when i get my wii i'll try a cheepo USB lan adaptor this (link) says it wopnt work but more often than not generic cheepo adaptors and accessories that are said to not work do so if it does its worth $12 for the adaptor, if not i can give it to some one or mabe even return it

After fighting w/ the DS adaptor dongle for about 2 hours thisafternoon, I finally said 'screw it' and headed on over to eBay, where I picked up a wireless NetGear 802.11g router for $26CAD w/ free shipping. Cheaper than Nintendo's dongle thing, and will actually work.

The DS dongle only works w/ WinXP.

eh, i use windows xp but still like i said theres alot of interference here. i have a hard time connecting my cell phone to the bluetooth dongle i plug into my keyboard and i set the phone on top of the thing
