that title says it all...

i am unsure about the compatibility of new laptop hard drives with older p2 type laptops...

does anyone know the requirements? compatibility issues?

thanx

Depending on the chipset, you may have to partition the drives to just under the chipsets limitation. Example, say that your chipset has a max of 10gb compatibility, then just partition your drive to 4x10gb partitions, or even better, 4x9gb partitions (your partition size may be different), and leave the leftover space for the OS.
So the first thing I would do, is lookup the chipset online and see what the limits are on the hdd controller, and go from there.
If it has a 440BX chipset (doubtful) then it would support a 40gb drive.

You can download CPU-Z get it here and run it to find your chipset info..it will be in the mainboard tab.
Hope this helps,

WOW! I just noticed the date on this old thread...This was a "similar" thread linked to another I was posting in....That old lappy was probably recycled into a new Prius by now :)
Sorry for wasting bandwidth on such an old thread...Next time I will look at the date b4 replying.
