I plan on getting a 170w pelt and two 80w pelts. The last post I wrote about this I was told I'll need at least 2 power supplies. I'm spending quite a bit of money on assembling my little supercooler, so I'm trying to cut the price down a bit, so I found 2 300w PSU's on a website. Will one 300w PSU handle the two 80w peltiers and the other 300w PSU for the 170w peltier? I couldn't find any specific information on the PSU's on the website.

Well, the 170 watt pelt is gonna be a 24 volt pelt and you're going to need a different supply than a computer supply cause they only put out 12 volts. The 2 80 watt pelts are going to be pulling about the maximum current out of a good 300 watt supply and while it would prolly work it's gonna run that supply at it's ragged edge and it will probably get hot and not last too long.

Allelectronics.com has 500w psu's for $25

TT120- Would one of those 500w PSU's be a better choice for the two 80w's? And where can I find something to power the 170

DE- thanks for the site

Look closer at that 500W PSU. Most of the power is in the +5V and +3.3V outputs, not the +12V output.

You could try ebay for the 24V power supply:- http://listings.ebay.com/aw/listings/list/category4676/index.html
However your looking at over $200 for a 24V 10A supply (minimum you need).
As for the PSU for the 80W pelts, if you run them at 12V you will only see about 60W of cooling. If your happy with 60W you need a PSU rated for at least 15A on the 12V rail (400W+). If you want the full 80W from the pelts you need a 15 to 16V supply rated for around 20A continous.

I'm not sure this may help you, but here is a website that will enable you to get differemt voltages out of tyour PSU. It doesn't really go into detail how your supposed to accomplish this, but I think you replace a lead on the 12 volt line with one from the motherboard connection

*crys* This is turning into a major headache, damn peltiers! It's also turning out to be way to expensive, $200 for a psu to run a 170?! =( I'll have to continue researching this. Thanks for everyone for your help.

p.s.- If anyone knows where I could find a psu that will run the 170 peltier that's around $100 or less. Thanks

I hate to mention this as I don't care for Ebay but they often have used PSUs for $40 and under.

I have the components for whipping out a 23.2V 25A P.S. It's probably just barely too big to fit inside your case. I offered it to MsNath for $100 plus shipping, but she never got back to me. Same offer to you.

Hoot- Do you have the dimensions of it and a pic? Whats the strongest TEC you've run on it?
