Greetings, I pulled an old power supply out of an IBM desktop, and was wondering if anyone could help me figure out if this will work in my HTPC build.

The HTPC is as follows:
  • Foxconn AM2/AM2+ A7VMX-K, (has support for <95w CPU's, but I'll take what I can find in the classifieds)
  • X2 processor (still shopping)
  • 2gb DDR2
  • 120gb SATA drive that I have sitting around
  • IDE DVD-rom
In the future, probably get a Blu Ray, but I will cross that road when I get to it.

Power supply is as follows
Hipro model HP-M1854F3P REV: 03
  • +5V/14A
  • +3.3V/12A
  • +5VAux/2A
  • +12V/10A
  • -12V/0.8A
  • "The total combined +3.3v abd +5v power should not exceed 100w, the max total power shall not exceed 185w"
Doesn't look good to me, but I am not sure.

Thanks

It may work, but I would suggest you don't try it. Hipro units are not very good. They represent the low end in every sense of the word. They may not explode immediately, but don't expect anything else either.

How powerful of a PSU do you suggest? Newegg wattage calculator said I will put out about 265, which jives with my idea of getting a 300w. Also, does FSP still make decent PSU's? They have alot of micro atx units on Newegg.

THank you

A 300W to 350W unit should be fine for your application. If form factor is a big constraint, look for Silverstone units (Element series in particular).

If these dimensions work, go with the Antec Earthwatts series (they are cheap). You could also try the LS series from BFG (not sure of the dimensions):
- 3.39"(H) x 5.91"(W) x 5.51"(D)
- 8.6cm (H) x 15cm (W) x 14cm (D)
