Zone Alarm frequently asks the following question:

"Do you want to allow Generic Host Process for Win32 Services to act as a server?"

What are the risks (and gains), if any, of answering "yes" to this question? I emailed Zone Labs but their very extensive reply never answered the question, it was only a long and complex dissertation on what the Generic Host Process does.

I assume there must be some risk. I always answer "no" and nothing appears to be impaired.

More insight in to this would certainly be appreciated.

I had a similar problem. Zone Alarm started asking me everytime I started up if a "" (blank) service could access the internet. My computer started to act erractically after every restart. I removed ZoneAlarm and I went to BlackIce instead. No problems since then.

more than likely it is safe to answer yes since the app is on your computer.i would suggest installing adaware and running it to disable all spyware before answering yes.
