One of my spare PCs had the mobo/cpu fail. I swapped in a different mobo/cpu and got it running. I expected Windows 7 to need to be reactivated but instead it went straight to saying its not genuine. i bought 2 keys from ProductKeys.com but still didnt work. tried using the Microsoft Activation Script but didnt work. seems like its activated but stuck as not genuine

its giving me 1 day to fix it. but i might just reinstall windows. computer is older and not really supportive of windows 10 or newer. any simple way to fix?

not sure how much good thats gonig to do. Win7 being no longer supported anymore. the message that comes up gives an option to enter a new key or 'go online to resolve' which basicly jsut says Win7 is no longer supported. no option to call the phone number anymore

And I think they have the free update to windows 11 but they might not have that anymore and you have to have TCP 2.0 compatible MB.

What's the hardware? I run Win10 on a Core2Quad system without a problem. You could get one of those $12 keys for it, and install asap. Downside is Win10 security update support is ending in about a year & a half.

If it says Not Genuine, there is no workaround with the keys you have. (Well, there are workarounds that we can't talk about here ;))

The Win7, 8, 8.1 upgrade key to Win10 expired a while ago. There are workarounds for the Win11 TPM 2.0 thing, though.

Then get a cheap key for windows 11 and turn on the TCP 2.0 in your BIOS. I buy game keys and I have bought other stuff as well.

TPM. Not TCP, TCP is transmission control protocol for routing internet packets.

Depending on the age of the system it won't have tpm2.0 support, including some newer system that requires an addin chip or using the CPU for an emulated tpm/ftpm

Ya I meant TPM 2.0 Ya his system might be too old.

If I can call MS and get XP re-activated, then you should be able to call MS and get this fixed for Win 7, just remember to be nice and tell them what happened.

Not genuine is not genuine. That's the only response that will come from MS.

The last time I activated XP (some time last year), they sent me a text with the activation code. I never spoke to anyone, it was automated.

ive done the automated activation for XP years ago no problem. this just isnt giving me an option for it. it just says windows is not genuine and gives me an option to 'go online and resolve'. that just opens a link saying windows 7 is no longer supported with some FAQ. one of them mentions doing it over phone but with no number to call and says to select the option which is not present

when i go to the System menu, then it has option to enter in a new key. does not fix anything however. just says its last day to actiave windows

im thinking it will jsut be easier to reinstall windows at this point. i have 2 product keys now for it. just so time consuming.

i am still a huge fan of Win 7, i really hate windows 10 and 11. my main pc has 10, my laptop has 11, my spare pc is dual boot 7 and 11 but primairly 7

its a older P9X79 mobo with a 4.5ghz OC 4930k i got super cheap on ebay, same as my main pc actually because i love how reliable it is. plenty fast for a spare of a spare PC. it replaced some AMD AM3+ mobo and cpu that no longer would POST. windows was genuine install, it jsut didnt like the mobo swap. i assumed a new key would fix that

ended up reinstalling windows. seems fine, just got the millions of updates to slowly install
Hopefully this can help speed those updates with some direct downloads. I was surprised to see the links aren't dead!

There is one problem with older keys. A lot of them were reused on other computers, and some were exchanged for Win8/10 on MS servers. Reused like your genuine key is probably on the web already. Once any key is used on 20+ different PCs (I don't remember if it was 20 or 25), then it's locked on MS servers, and you won't get any help unless you pass a quite long process that includes providing a genuine license and Windows label. All the "cheap key" online stores are, in my meaning, not operating legally. They sell group keys without a license or product sticker/label. Often, when you don't use a key, someone else uses it in a few days.
If you have the original license with a sticker/label, you can call MS on the general license support line. This is the same for all Windows products and most others. The only problem is sometimes finding it, as MS hides the number for some reason.

Even if you dislike Win10/11, then I recommend installing at least Win10 and deleting all the useless or annoying stuff and maybe using tools to customize the start menu and other things if you like it so much.
Win10 has an improved scheduler and other features for multithreading, so it should work better on the 4930K. It may not be required in this case.

When you finish updating Win7, I recommend cloning the OS even on an older HDD, just in case. If it crashes, you may not reactivate it in some months, or updates may not work.
