When I go to system properties, it displays 4.00 GB. However, when I go to task manager and then Performance, under Physical memory Total (MB) it shows 3006.

Am I reading this wrong?

you sure you installed 64-bit? looks like the results of 32. It is a beta, so perhaps its just reporting like a 32bit system instead of 64.

strange either way. Also check that the bios is reporting 4gb.

Yep it's definitely 64-bit, says so in system properties :)

BIOS reports 4GB as well. I found some more information about it, here are some screenshots:

Anyone got explanations for this? Do I need to change options in the BIOS? I have the Asus P5B-E motherboard, if it matters.

Thanks

Reboot once and see what your bios is reporting. My Asus p5b deluxe needed the bios flashed to a later revision when I upgraded to win7, cause I also added the extra ram to boost up to 4gb at the time of the switch to win7. I had the same scenario happening. The bios screen showed 3000mb, windows show same, and cpu-z saw all four sticks and reported 4gb. Once I flashed the bios, everything started reporting all 4gb.

Is Windows 7 the first 64-bit OS you've used with 4 gigs of RAM on this computer? If so, look for a "memory mapping" setting in your BIOS and try changing it to the opposite of what it is currently set to.

This worked! I flashed the BIOS to the latest and the BIOS read 3 GB, so I found the mapping setting and changed it (I think enabled it). Saved, went back in, and now it shows 4 GB. Booted into 7, also shows all 4 GB with only 2 MB hardware reserved.

Thanks to everyone for the help :)
