Edit/Update: I repaired the corrupted file using the Windows XP Professional installation cd. Just as I was about to reinstall over my existing partition I noticed an option to repair an existing install (I got to the repair existing install thing after going through the liscense agreement etc. right before the point where you do a fresh install). So I used the repair existing install option and it performed maintenance on my hard drive and it worked, not bugs or glitches.

Well, I have been messing around with my p4 1.8 northwood I got a couple days ago and have had it stable at 133fsb and 533mhz rdram. Today I wanted to see if I could get more mhz so I changed the rdram to 3x instead of 4x and tested out higher FSBs. After trying different things I got this error:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
System32\DRIVERS\isapnp.sys
You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup cd-rom.
Select "r" at the first screen to start repair.

So I ran windows setup and got into the repair section. Next I saved isapnp.sys to a disk from another computer running windows xp and copied it to my computer with the corrupt file. After I restarted the computer I had the same corrupted file problem. I tried unplugging my drive cables, rebooting many times and such but I can't seem to get past the error. I even set all the BIOS settings to default, flashed the latest official Abit Bios (version 38) without luck.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, if I install Windows XP again, will I be able to import my old files from the previous install?

Please help, thanks.

I'd do the reinstall. If you just pop the disk in and go, you're essencially just installing OVER the old install, so yes, your files should still be available after the fresh install.

I hope so, may install it now. Not a fresh install but right over my existing (to the same directory). I really need the files so I hope they are not replaced. I was stupid not to backup my system first :/
