Okay... This one has me stumped...

My dad has a Dell XPS. About a month ago it started this deal where if you were playing a multiplayer game [online], you would have horrible framerates and would not play correctly at all. So many people kept telling me, "It's probably lag." I know what lag is and what it effects, but I know it is not lag.

So Internet Explorer.... Open it up to say, Google, it loads fine.. But as soon as you type anything into the search box and push enter, it freezes (Internet Explorer). So you leave the first IE open and open a second one, low and behold, it opens fine and runs for about 3-4 websites, then it freezes and you have to shut both of them down (both come up as frozen programs) and wait till the End Task and all that jazz comes up.

I have used about every single freeware spyware program plus about 5 different ones that he had to pay for. M$ AntiSpyware, McAffee has and always runs full time behind the scenes... I cannot find ANY malware on the computer...

These problems, the multiplayer internet games and IExplorer problems came up @ the same time...

EDIT -> I just launched in Safemode w/ Networking and can search fine... Could it be McAffee or something doing it?

Newer Dells are notorious for fans malfunctioning. This may be a heat issue. Crack the case and make sure all fans are clean and working.

If there is no spyware found, run a chkdsk and defrag.

We were trying to avoid doing a system restore for fear of losing files... he has a lot of work files and pictures on there...
