here is my question. If I had an 80GB hard drive and partitioned it C: is 5 GB and D: is 75GB, can I install every application to the D drive so when I format my C: drive I dont have to reinstall all my apps again?
Im not sure how the registry thing works so I'm wondering if this would work?

Alot of applications would have issues with this because as you said they store information in the registry. Your best bet to make life easier with reinstalls of the OS is to get a drive imaging application like Norton Ghost or Drive Image. You can setup your machine how you like it, take an image and then reapply the image at any time. A seperate partition for all your data files would allow you to keep things like pictures and word docs etc unharmed.

yea cause some of the file is automatically stored on drive c: if u format c: you may find some of the programs may not work

well thats wat i think, could be rong though
