I'm thinking about purchasing the Linksys WRT54GL . It only has 5 stars and over 2600 reviews  lol.

Saw some reviews for it by people who owned a PS3 and they seem happy.

Would this be the way to go?

It would coincide with my Comcast cable modem.

A router is a router. It doesn't matter if it's hooked up to a PS3, 360, PC or a cell phone. Get a good router and it will serve you well all around.

HOWEVER, I have that router and I will tell you a few things about it:

If you bittorrent or download from usenet a lot, it gets jammed up, slows down and needs to be rebooted

The Wireless on the PS3 for some reason is slow. I get better speed connecting a Cat5 to the PS3 from the router. The PSN network itself is really slow. I can download a firmware update onto a USB stick from my PC, stick it in the PS3 and install it and then get an inning or two of MLB the Show in the same amount of time it would take to download and install on the PS3 itself.
