I didn't put this in the Software forum because I wasn't sure if it should be in there, and it seems to take a fair bit longer to get a response when posting in there (in my experience) :(

Well, I've installed slackware 10.0, and it comes with KDE 3.2.3, whose login manager is giving me a couple of problems. When I was still using KDE 3.1.x (with slackware 9.1), I was able to modify the list of window managers that could be chosen at the login screen. I no longer have that ability - I still have the list, but I can't delete entries that I didn't install or don't want to use. It may seem kind of whiny, but it's an inconvenience (albeit a minor one) to have to manually select "KDE" before I hit "Login". With KDE 3.1.x, I removed all entries except for KDE - which made things much easier for me (or perpetuated my lazyness...semantics). Any idea on how to remove the other entries with KDE 3.2.3?

Thanks in advance :)

You could get rid of the login manager all together if KDE is all that you use and just have that run when you type "startx" or boot the machine. Thats the way that I am doing it.

I know that I can just start in console mode, but I've found that it's faster for me to just boot straight into KDE, especially since I use KDE 99.99% of the time. It takes about 40secs to get to my desktop if I boot straight into KDE, but it takes 50-60 if I boot to console mode and type "startx". I'm a very impatient person, so I like to shave off those 10-20 seconds :p.

Why do you have to select kde every time you login, slackware 10 remembers to start up kde as default for me. If i remember correctly kdm defaults to the last wm run, so if you always use kde it should start kde.

Also are you sure you are using kdm and not gdm, as slackware defaults to using gdm to handle x logins. You can change this by modifynig /etc/rc.d/rc.4.

Did you select kde as your default window manager when you first installed. if not rerun xwmconfig and select kde.
