I downloaded a new start up and shutdown screen and put them in my root directory. Now when I go to shut down in stead of shutting off my computer gives me the screen that says "shutdown complete, system files offline, it is now safe to turn off your computer" Then I have to shutoff the computer manually.

Is there a fix for this?

Open up you display properties. Click on "Screen Saver". Then go down and click on "Power". Then open up the "APM" tab. Make sure "Enable Advanced Power Management Support" is checked. That should fix your problem.

If you are running 98SE, run msconfig and hit the General tab, click Advanced, and tun on the "Disable fast shutdown" option.

I don't have the check box that bdf discribed. I am running 98se and I went to where stool pointed me. The "disable fast shutdown" was already checked. So I unchecked it just to see what would happen. Now my computer will shutdown and then start right back up. It is not restarting though. When it shutsdown then starts back up I get the video bios check, cpu check, memorytest, and post beep. I don't get these when I restart. So I checked the box again.

Did you save your "Logow.sys" and "logos.sys" files before putting the new files on? If so, you should be able to just copy them back over the new files. If not, make sure the existing files you added don't use more than 256 color mode, and are 320X400 pixels in size. The last thing you can try, and I've never done it, is to search your Windows CD, in the .cab files, and see if you can find logow.sy_ and logos.sy_, then extract them to your temp directory, and replace the new files.(not sure if this will work)

Sorry about that. For some reason I thought you were running WinXP.
