ha ha. just thought id do that since everyone is leik im in the top 250.

sooooo, anyways, I havent been following this forum much, and have seen "Borging" and "gromacs" all over. I try to figure out waht these are. I kinda have a clue but im not quite sure. Any help?

BTW, is there anything i can do to optimize my folding? All i do is open the console connect to the net and fold away. Is there anything i can do to tweak the console for maximum performance?

Welcome :D

"and on the seventh day the Folding gods said, go forth to the stickies and you will find the answers you seek."

Setting the flags to fold Gromacs (a different type of work unit that uses an alternate .exe for computing the results) will optimize your machine. So does OC'ing and leaving it running 24/7.

Read the "how to" on borging to set up the console client with the flags.

Cheers, and welcome to the team.

Wedo

Well...the downside to the Gromac's core is it takes a rock solid system....and running gromacs are the only way to tell if ur system is rock solid! Even people who's rigs could take Prime95 for DAYS would still crash on a Gromac....but hey its a good try

Good luck folding//borginG!!!!!

I read the stickie on borging and am now totaly confused as to what borging is. Is that to use the Gromacs core? what was that service thing to download? what did it do? it seemed exactly like the one i have right now.

Borging is the fine art of getting other people's computers to fold for team 32. Wedo is a true master of this art. He is wise in the ways of borging. :D

If your school techs are even half decent.... no. They can trace you through your Folding username and collar you. Ask permission, you never know they might say yes!

Either that or make sure you Borg them under a different 'fake' username - it won't help you but it'll help us catch the Aussies!

oh, btw, any tips to optimize performance for both intel and amd systems? my amd is like an SVT focus with supercharger . my intel, on the otherhand, is like a ford festiva. any tips on how to get my amd up to porsche, and my intel up to svt focus?

Well, i have made a folder that i will send to you, if you want, with full instructions that any idiot could follow, for you all add an extra readme so you dont fold under my name, just PM me if you want. On my 1600, in a week, i climbed to 40,000th.

borging is a term derived from star trek. the mechanical beings known as the borg "assimilate" other races. that is to alter their bodies with nanotechnology creating their own pseudo species. to borg computers for folding is to assimilate those machines into "the fold" as we say or "the collective" as the borg say.

gromacs is a different style of work unit. it uses optimized assembly code (got it right this time :p ) to speed up the simulation process and make things more accurate. to get gromacs work units add -advmethods to the shortcut to the folding console or you can use the console version and use wedo's .reg file.

Yep. That's it.

BTW - your AMD box will fold tinkers faster than a pentium would BUT you should still run gromacs on it anyway, because they get you even more points if your rig is stable enough. With the new gromacs core that came out, this stability thing may be less of an issue for people.

How fast is your festiva? If it's a pIII or better, it has SSE, and you should run gromacs on it too.

Good luck and welcome!
