To create a sort a direct connection to the proccessor thats half the speed or something, like PCI but faster for 1Gbit and 10GBit ethernet? Just curious.
I'm talking about a direct connection to the proccessor to enable speeds faster than PCI's 33/66MHz so as to enable Gigabit Ethernet to run at full speed.
Neither am I but I'm just asking wether is possible since the 33MHz limitation on PCI surely doesn't let the Gigabit ethernet go anywhere near 1Gbit :/
Actually it does allow it to work properly - just barely. Where you run into some trouble is having the bus loaded with devices all competing for some time. Intel found a way around this with the 875 chipset - I forget what they call it though. It's a dedicated link though. Take a look at this: http://www.anandtech.com/chipsets/showdoc.html?i=1811&p=5
