To order a EVGA 8800 gts
so I can step up to an 8800 gtx or whatever is out within the 90 days....

The reasoning behind this is because I am limited as far as funds go. With Christmas almost here and getting a new apartment in Jan.However I must have my system done before I move January 1st (that is going to be one hell of a hang over lol).

that would work for you. Just beware that evga's prices (when you step up) are usually a little higher then say newegg, but not a ton. I don't think you will be disappointed by the 8800gts, they are speedy.

since he needs a card now he can get the gts and even sell it to help fund a R600 if they are much better.

Id do what custom says, or you can get a budget DX9 card like a 7300GT and use it until everything settles, then sell it.

You know for a second I didn't even think of the r600 :( I'm so busy and I knew I wanted a 8800 gtx, that I forgot about it... good ideas guys I appreciate it.

The budget card to hold me over would be nice but I'd like to play rainbow six:vegas to hold me over until quakewars/ut2k7 which is pretty demanding, sorry I didn't state that earlier.

Thanks again for the advice.

eVGA's prices are currently $649 for the GTX...that's around the same price ppl are charging for the GTX (maybe $20 more in some cases)

I think if it was me I'd do the GTS Stepup thing. I'm a little impulsive though :)

well i think its a good idea but theres a LONG waiting line in that step up thing for a gtx

Ya I know I am hoping within 90 days from when I purchase they have a new board :p so I can be one of the first to step up to it :) Worst case scenario I'll sell it and buy a new one(Probally faster than a step up)

I have a question about the step up though, do they have to have my card while I'm in queue? Or can I use my card until they can step up my card?

You can use your card until your time in queue is completed then you send your card in and they then send you your new one.

Yeah, you keep the card until you have made it through the queue. They will send you an email telling you that you can now send it in to them. From that point, you are without it for the amount of time it takes for the shipping there (depending on what method you select), maybe a day or two for turnaround, then ground shipping back to you. So it's really not too bad.
