AMD Althon x2 6400+ (3.20)
Geforce 9800 GTX+ (basically a 250 i believe?)
4 gigs, dual-chan
nForce 590 SLI (Asus m2n32-sli deluxe)
BFG 500w PSU

First and foremost, considering adequte power is getting to everything (im going to say it is) what kind of framerate would you guys think I should be getting in Dalaran with everything maxxed minus shadows (turned off)? How about 25mans same settings?

The only reason I ask, I was running the latest current drivers and in Dalaran I would get about 25-30 FPS. 25mans? I would say probably about 20-25 (basically unplayable by my standards). I just tried 196.01 (heard something about them being good I believe) and I'm getting roughly the same numbers in Dalaran.

I just recently upgraded the graphics card from an 8500 GT and tbh, I don't think I ever seen such low frames outside of Dalaran of course. I mean the specs on the new card are almost double that of a 8500 GT if i'm remember correctly.

Needless to say, what do you think the problem (if there really is one) could be for me to try and troubleshoot?

Its WoW, it uses a lot of CPU, so maybe thats the issue... especially in high action in 25 man raids...

It should be fine really... what fps are you getting? What resolution do you play at?

Well, I'm currently using the 191.07 drivers (just double checked), I typically try to play at 1280x1024 (i did just swap to 1024x768 to see if theres a FPS, I'm going to say none, or maybe a placebo effect of 1-3 FPS.

Right now, I have vSync disabled (as always), 1024x768, and none of the really "intense" performance settings (in wow) on high, just View Distance, Terrain Blending, Particle Density, Enviroment Detail, and Projected textures on.

Sitting in Dal, im at 46 right now. If I move, it just drops to about 25-30.

Turn off the shadows. otherwise that's correct. Just to give you an idea. here is a quick fraps run through dalaran i just did.

I have my cpu at 3.0 ghz right now for this and a stock HD 5850 (which is about 300% the card from a 9800gt in most cases)

2010-01-29 14:17:36 - WoW
Frames: 1736 - Time: 56597ms - Avg: 30.673 - Min: 16 - Max: 49

I'm going to reboot and go back to my normal 4.0 ghz then again at 1.0ghz

here it is keep in mind all these are max detail at 1920x1080

2010-01-29 14:26:53 - WoW
Frames: 2192 - Time: 60146ms - Avg: 36.445 - Min: 19 - Max: 53

brb time for 1.0 ghz

stange my bios would not keep it at 1 ghz.

sorry

there was another thread about this just recently myself coming back to wow, and i was having the same problem in northrend, specifically in dalaran. i ran fine in vanilla and TBC, but i think there is just alot more geometry in WoTLK (and alot more players). someone in the other thread mentioned setting the draw distance to the bare minimum. it worked like a charm. went from unplayable to 30fps. try it out!

edit: oh also i forgot this! you have to manually set a certain setting in the config file to fully utilize multicores

In case of WoW, you need to manually set it, though, from the config.wtf (or you can use task manager every time you run it to manually set affinity for all cores)
SET processAffinityMask "x"
Replace x with 3 for dual-cores, 7 for triple-cores, 15 for quad-cores and 85 for octa-cores (or threads, aka Core i7. Also, for unknown reason 7 is suggested as "optimal" for Core i5's instead of 15)

Yeah I don't play atm but I did notice a huge difference from the frame rates from vanilla and now. I could get 60+ on my POS 2ghz single core back in the day. Of course with my new rig I can get quality frame rates but wow what a difference in what the game needs to run well.

Ever since 3.3 and the Random Dungeon Queue, nobody leaves dal. Even the best of machines wont be in the best of shape with 300-600+ sitting in dal at primetime. 25-30 is just fine for there. If in raids, both 10 and 25 you are having problems, then there will be a problem.

Jesus this game must've gotten a lot more intense since I last played it a long time ago.

I had no problem getting 60+ FPS in Ogrimmar (SP?) with an AMD Single Core 1.8Ghz CPU, 1GB of DDR-333 RAM, and a GeForce 6600GT

Average texture size and Geometry scale has gone through the roof since the initial release.

Just so everyone knows, the highest setting for shadows is bugged. Kick it down one notch, and you'll be fine.

I get 90+ fps outdoors, everywhere but Dalaran. 150-200fps indoors, and in most 5 man instances.

EDIT:

Type /console maxfps 300 to raise the fps cap to 300. You can change the number to make it higher or lower.

Ahh i've been gone for a while just has some play time because some one hacked my account.

acually you can get a cool little security key generating key fob for $8 and its way cooler and you still get the pet.

If you have an iPhone, I would highly recommend the Blizzard Authenticator. That adds another level of security, and gives you a pet!

Yeah I'm not really sure how it happened, had the account for almost 5 years not one problem I cancel the account and a month later i get an email saying I was banned for selling gold.

Got it all fixed, reinstalled, checked my toons, all in tact, and gave 7.5k gold to my guild and 5k gold in mats to my guild too, all at the hand of a hacker. :)

unless your on a CRT that setting really will do nothing since your LCD cant display that many frames anyways.
