Now, I know Maxtor HDDs are a POS, but it's what my mate's old PC came with. When i built his new Gig Athlon system, he didn't wanna spend more on a new HDD, so I fitted it.
In the BIOS, it's only recognised as 2112Mb, even when it's unformatted capacity is 17.2 Gb and that's with EZ-Drive on it too.
When he tries to copy anything to it reboots itself, and when attemps are made to install games, it just freezes to a black screen, and the only cure is the Finger Of Death.
The disk is recognised correctly in Windows 98 (First Ed.), and has got 1.34Gb used.
It is running the 4.24(a) Version of the VIA 4-in-1 Drivers which came on the mobo CD.
Another oddity I noticed is it has the 686B Southbridge, although the BIOS is configured for the 686A.
Other Info:
It is connected to the primary channel, as master with a 4Gb Seagate UDMA 33 Drive tagged on as Slave (The Maxtor is first on the cable from Mobo Header) with a UDMA66 Lead.
On the secondary channel is an empty drive cradle and a Toshiba 12x DVD Drive (set as slave)
Any input requested...
