Well, I got this cable a long time ago and I just found it whial cleaning some stuff out. I was going to make an ethernet killer out of it (not to use, I swear.) but then I got to thinking, what is this really used for? So I took some pics, does anyone know what it is??

This is 1 end of it. Have no clue what it goes into.

This is the other end. It's a normal ethernet jack and fits into my router perfectelly.

BTW I was kidding about the ethernet killer thing :p

thats odd. Maybe some advanced networking cable. Thats my guess. Or like you said, a really old cable back in the days when ethernet was being born.

PS: ethernet killer?

the back side looks almost like an AT keyboard connector. My guess it is an early ethernet cable designed for some propriety port. I am also curious as to what an ethernet killer is.

an ethernet killer is when you take a patch cord with 1 ethernet jack on 1 side, and a normal power plug on the other end and u plug the ethernet side into a router of a network (or really anywhere) and the other end into the wall. ZAPP. Unless their routers have circuit breakers, u can zap quite a bit before the main circuit breaker kicks you off.

LOL, sounds like great vandalism for a lan, plug it into someones computer when they are gone, boom. Just hope everone else there hates the person as much as you do. No i wouldnt really do that. Would be fun to use on old PCs with token ring cards though.

I forgott to mention, this is what it says on the side...
CSA Type AMW I/II 80*C 300v FT1 26AWG... and some other crap if you want to know.

I know, thought if someone had an idea of what it might be the type of cable would help them make a better decision.

It looks like HP's attemp at a proprietary bus similar to USB they used back in the early 90's on workstations. I think it was called HP-HIL or something like that.
