Hi guys, I need advice on sound cards...

First off - is it just me, or did they stop making X-Fi XtremeMusic cards? Why?

I'm looking to get a new sound card and was thinking of getting the XtremeMusic card, but it's no longer for sale anywhere and not listed on the Creative Labs page any more. Is the next best bet an XtremeGamer Fatal1ty edition? (I will have an ASUS commando, basically a P5B-Deluxe, when it comes out later this week, and a single 8800GTX).

Thanks for the recommendation.

Why did they stop making the XtremeMusic? And I wouldn't get the XtremeGamer - I heard it's ****, how can it be the replacement for the XtremeMusic... it looks like the XtremeAudio which doesn't actually use the X-Fi DSP.

I don't know why they are getting rid of the Extrememusic, the ExtremeGamer is only a half card and looks crappy, but it's sopposed to be as good as the XMusic. I felt the way you did, that's why I invested in the X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro, a very good card even though there are no real uses for the XRAM yet.

i was todl that the Exremegamer wasnt that good. the only thing thats good on the card was the VRAM which is no big deal becuase any card will play games you just dont get the effects. big deal. if you to get a sound card for music, get the creative labs X-FI Extreme Audio. I love it. check the sig.

the extreme audio's good unless you want to pay for a $150 dollar sound card. the only reason why its good is the VRAM thats it. I got mine for 78 bucks

whats this really mean? that the X-FI extreme audio is cheap than the Extremegamer. some reason they copied the gamer and called it a X-FI. i get that part but as long it does the job it should be fine right?

It's not a bad card in it's own right, but compared to a ExtremMusic or ExtremeGamer or Fatal1ty, the audio quality isn't as good. Basically it is being called an X-Fi when it really doesn't have a true X-Fi chip running it.

Wow.... I just got my XtremeMusic about a month ago...... I can't beleive it's gone already.....

There was a very big overlap in the X-Fi cards for Creative though.... They are probl. just thinning the lineup.... I got a hell of a deal on MINE.... $59.00 after a $20.00 instant store rebate ............. GOD I LOVE FRY"S (sometimes)

Oh.. and Mr. Roboto.... good luck to your PATS on Sunday...... may they make it home safe after their butt whipping here in INDY!!!!!!!!!!

you do have a point about them not using the chip. I have a question for you i have everest and i want to look at the Direct-X i can look at Video and music but when i go to Audio, the PC shuts down like pullin the chord out of the PSU. whats seems to be the issue? Its weird i just witnessed this 4 days ago and im very aware whether my PC is acting funny for some reason. I know its not the PSU becuase i can access the Music and Video tabs.

Any suggestions?

I have never used Everest, do you have the latest version of Everest? Do you have the lastest drivers installed for your sound card? I ask because maybe there is a driver clash or something.

Any card that uses software for sound processing is a waste IMO.

Maybe on your speakers, but on weaker ones you can hear a world of difference. ..

Actually, just turn down ur speakers a little with an X-Fi and onboard sound and you will hear it. I was skeptical too... Now I'm an audiophile. Quite Windows Vista RC because it lacked X-Fi support...

It's actually the other way around. The better the speakers you have, the better you will be able to tell the differences. Not that my z-5500s are anything special, they're just my dorm speakers. At home, its running through my receiver.

in the way of logitechs, better speakers mean just high dynamic range and more bass because of the power. Especially in a dorm, I don't know when you'll ever be able to turn it up to hear ur difference.
