if they serve as your home speakers too, then Logitechs z-5500s would be best although they are no longer on the egg. These cost a slight premium as well tho. z-5300e is a little of a step down but sound great on a good sound card.

Just buy speakers based on how large the area you will be using them in/ how loud you can turn them up. The subs will usually come in 8-10 inches. More wattage in a system doesn't necessary mean it is more powerful, so remember the sub size for responsive bass. Go for logitech/harmon kardon&jbl(same manuf)/klipsh... Of the three, logitechs are usually the cheapest for what you get.

40 watts? Sounds like a 2.1 system.
 
I own an Xtreme Music w/A2 I/O Drive and an Fatal1ty. The Fatal1ty has the X-ram and I get the infamous Snap Crackle and Pop on all my N4 boards with the Fatal1ty. I haven't experience any of the Snap Crackle and Pop with my Xtreme Music.
