I just recieved my $190 dollar XFX FX5900 & so far the results are amazing. It breezed it's way up to 5950 speeds (475/950) with stock cooling & voltage. Not too shabby for such a "cheap" card.

I need to keep the card for while so I backed it off right away, but I ran through HOCP's UT03 bench. The results were held back by my ancient T-bird 1.2 (12x100) & the paltry 256Mb RAM.

Averages @ 1024x768 HQ -

dm-antalus = 94.455154
dom-suntemple = 110.559868
dm-phobos2 = 97.549049
dm-inferno = 125.501114
ctf-face3 = 86.656898
ctf-citadel = 69.404144
dm-asbestos = 114.448112

Anyone else think Nvidia is getting excellent yields with the NV35?

I did have one question, what's up with the temp setting? Is it accurate? Is 120c really safe for the GPU (that's the default limit)

Can't wait to see what it can do with WC & paired up w/ a Barton core.

Edit: Forgot to mention, drivers are the public 52.16.

Yep, competition is always great for the consumer.

I was thinking that the yields were allowing the "non-ultra" NV35's to achieve ultra clocks (all the NV35's are clock friendly).

120c is over 200f. 100c is where water boils, 212f. The card will live for a while at that, but eventualy it will kill it.

Most GPUs can do 100c (or close) with no problems...though it is very near the threshhold of the GPU

Just strange, when I updated to the 53 drivers the threshold went to 140c - huh???

It never gets above 45* so I figure that the "temp waring" is just an unused setting :D

I wonder why NVIDIA includes it if it's not useful?

GPUs especially nVidias run very hot, I burned myself the other day on my Ti 4800SE. I took off the Heatsink after gaming for a few hours and touched it, singed me pretty good... But 80C is normal and 100 is about the limit youd want it at.
