I have recently purchased a 12900k with a https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-Z790-A-MAX-WIFI and Kingston Fury Renegade RGB, 96GB, (2x48GB), 6400MHz, DDR5, CL32, XMP - KF564C32RSAK2-96.

I have checked the supported memories in the motherboard and its listed there for 6400.

XMP1 is 6400, 2 is 6000, 3 is 4800 and memtest86 on xmp1 and 2 fails nearly instantly around 33% on the first pass
4800 passes with green colors.

Is there anything I could perhaps change or try to see if I can get either to work? Any advices appreciated...

Have you updated to the latest MSI motherboard non-beta (7E07vM5) BIOS? That can sometimes make a difference with RAM problems.

It's possible the 12900k just isn't happy trying to run 96GB of RAM at XMP. It happens sometimes with that much RAM.

Instead of letting it auto set the profiles, did you try setting them manually to Kingston's specs?
I see, I manually clicked the xmp profiles, I will try to manually set the specs this time and test.

I also tried the msi "memory test it" thingy which just gives me the CL and speed I want which also failed.

I was considering that after reading that it supports up to 4800 so I was wondering how that affects oc'ing the memory it self, because I thou cpu and memory were not a pair anymore like in the old days where u needed to adjust both.
This.

Consider raising the System Agent voltage (memory controller) a bit, perhaps... Try .1 over what it's set at now (seen in the BIOS).
I will try that as usual thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I will try setting it manually first and then increase the voltage.

so I was wondering how that affects oc'ing the memory it self,
To be clear, you're not overclocking the memory...it's rated to run that speed. You ARE overclocking the IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) on the CPU...hence the ask to raise the SA voltage. That more RAM you have, the slower it will run. Do you need that much RAM in the first place? You could return it for 32/48GB kit that would more likely to run those speeds...

I would check if 6000 or 6200 works - enable XMP but set manually 6000/6200. These CPUs couldn't run at more than 6600-7200 on some motherboards with 2x16GB kits. I have no idea how the MSI mobo works with older CPUs. 2x48GB kit can be more demanding, or simply MSI failed the BIOS.
You can also check more relaxed timings like CL34/36-40-40.
I can only tell you that I have the same kit, and it runs up to 7600 with a 14700K CPU and an ASUS Z790 mobo. If it passes memtest at any XMP profile, then I doubt it's the memory fault.
