well no. I mean....yes

wait wait....uuhhh, lemme think....

hmmmmmmmmmmm, no, I dont think soooOOooo...

but actually....yeah

you should be ok for stock speeds and a little overclocking. My guess is that with a fan that gives off at least 60cfm and normal ambient temps, you can get to at least 3.2

What do most Air O.C.'ers go with for the C2D e6600 now-a-days?

I remember when the XP-120 was the bees knees (seems like just a year ago), and I have 2 systems with XP120's running quietly. Are other coolers really "That" much better?

What 'cha recommend?

the 'bees knees'? lol

Nowadays its tower heatpipe coolers Tuniq, Ultra 120, Zalmans 950... (towers in general) are currently the ones that people mostly buy now and they are very effective but I really dont think its a good idea to suggest towers to people who are new to building computers because they do require a bit more than average experiance to install them but they are really not that difficult however the results are well satisfactory.

@Xargon21: If you have a xp-120 already, just use it. If you dont have a xp-120, Tuniq tower or ultra120 are excellent choices. I would suggest the Tuniq.

I had an XP-120 laying around when I built my Conroe rig and I have it cooling my E6400 right now. It's got a Delta WFB1212ME on a Sunbeam rheostat so I can undervolt it whenever. At 2.4Ghz my temps are around 36C but thats partially due to it's still like 80F here in south Texas. :(

Want some info! Heh heh more than you probably wanted to know.

Yes, I would say the XP-120 is getting long in the tooth compared to the newer heatsinks.

However, my overclocked Prescott runs considerably hotter than most Conroes well until you are applying serious voltages on the core (I'd guess >3.6ghz range).

Actually, when I was running an XP-120 I only lost 1-2°C when I went from a high speed Delta fan (don't remember which one) to a low speed Delta tri-blade, so you don't need a screamer for that heatsink. That said, unless you already have an XP-120 or can get a used one cheap you're probably better off getting one of the newer high performance heatsinks.

sup

do yourself a favor and get a tuniq 120 or a noctua nhu12 with the 120 fan on it if you really want to get the full ocing potential out of your e6600, you won't regret it. just make sure you mount it correctly for airflow if you do decide to get one

well i got the noctua nh u12f from Xoxide
I dont know if ill overclock or not i had problems with the sata drive choking on my current comp did they ever fix that prob?
