XP and DMA

Is it possible to turn off the DMA settings on XP

I tried to overclock like before and my Operating System errors out blaming the hard drive. I have a Western Digital 20 gig 7200 hard drive and the freshest of fresh installs of XP pro. I just need to figure out how to turn off DMA so I can get back above a Gigahertz.

you can probably change the settings in BIOS
change the channel from auto select to PIO mode 4

id still not turn DMA off,cause it rocks,but what the hey

the coolest thing. happened. i figured it out.

i changed in system files then went back to 1.107. i am soooo happy.
