I've got the same prob, try to install the OS using only the Vidcard & with the HD conneceted to the chipset IDE, install the Raid drivers, and once the driver is installed, move the drive to the Raid controller, and add the other cards ;)

elBogg,

To tell you the truth, I'm nor sure the reason it works, but I've found it to be the best way to install WinNT based OS's. WinNT, Win2K, and WinXP.

I think it's because it allows the mobo to set all the IRQ's pre-boot, to a series that works on a low level. Then when the OS picks it up, there are no conflicts.

As well, the best way to set up a OS, is to boot from the 1st time using only the Video card. Then add a card, reboot, and load it's drivers. Reboot, and repeat until all of your boards, and drivers are installed.

And to answer your other question, Yes, I do this with all mobo's now.

I hope this information will help you get to where you want to be...............

hmm, that's interesting. i never thought of that. it would have helped a few weeks ago, when i was having irq issues, but i finagled my way around it. i'll try that when i put together my new system. i've got an ak35 gtr on the way:D - i couldn't resist the raid . . . no, but seriously, i rationalized the issue of upgrading to the 35 instead of waiting for a kt333 solution by realizing that my memory is all ddr2100, and the new 2400/2700 stuff is prohibitively expensive, and getting more so:confused: oh, well, i'll take this board and push it as much as i can. honestly, i'm looking forward to seeing if the whole raid substructure will give me any problems overclocking, or not. btw, doc, how did you mod your promise card to be a raid card? that must have been interesting . . .

XP CRASH!

Tried the direct approach to the motherboard. Didn't work. Have not tried shutting off the plug n play. What your saying is that I should take out all the cards except the vid card and build from there? If that doesn't work what next?

Thanks Doc,

Yes COMPUTERMAN,

I suggest starting from scratch. Reformatted HD, just a Vid card, and memory. Shut off all the onboard stuff that you won't use in the bios, and boot to the WinXP CD.

Install the OS completely, and theb start adding cards, one at a time, rebooting, and loading the drivers 1 by 1.

Lemme know, and Good Luck!

XP CRASH!

HEY DOC! Nothing works. I have tried everything you said and the results are the same. I believe there is a hardware problem somewhere. cpu, memory, mobo. The puzzling thing is that win98 works just fine. But when I upgrade to xp or 2000 (I have tried both) the results are the same an unstable system that reboots itself or gives me the.........."BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH".
I have tried it with the two different promise controller cards. The promise 133tx2 and the promise ultar 66. I then went straight to the board(each time reformatting the drive and installing the various components per your instructions. Results the same!
Doc I have installed alot of systems, hardware & software. I have built many systems from 3.1 to the present xp. I have never run across this kind of nightmare............."THE COMPUTER FROM HELL".

I think I will have the entire system checked out to see if there is a hardware problem.........mobo, ddr, hard drive, cpu.

What do you suggest?

Thanks for the Wisdom,

Man, that's too weird!

I have essentially the same system, and haven't had any of the problems you're describing.

Ak31, Promise Raid, GeForceIII, etc.

If I think of anything else, I will post it.

Good luck,

Doc

I've seen a number of post's like this. It seems to me most of the problem's similiar to what you are having were a result of bad ram. They were able to run Win ME or 98 just fine. But tried upgrading to 2K pro or Win XP and nothing but error's, crash's, reboot's, and BSOD's.

Try a different stick of ram and see if it goes once. Or if you've got two stick's in now. Just take one out and try it. Then vise versa. It's worth a shot anyway.
