I've been wondering for a long time, does the name Athlon XP have anything to do with being designed with Windows XP in mind? Or is it somehow some sort of coincidence? :eh?:
I'm 98% sure of the answer, but just wanted to be sure. Better to ask than to go telling people the wrong answer, acting like I know the right one (i've done that before) :)

im going to go with the fact it was marketting ploy. "optimised for windows XP!".. however, iirc the AXP series did have more cache than its non XP/Duron counterparts.. correct me if im wrong though, its been a long time since ive fired up the old TBird

AXP had the same cache with older athlons... 256KB only the barton core (last of the mohic... errr XP's) had 512.
XP stands for Xtra Performance while in windows stands for XPerience....
I don't know though if it was marketing back then.... I believe that AMD thought about microsoft too...
