XP1700+ sees 13X as 5X?

Howdy,

I'm trying to see how much more I can get out of my XP 1700+ on the KT133A board that I have. I've pushed the FSB as far as my memory will allow, 141MHz., and all is stable with the multiplier set to 12.5 times (1758MHz.).

The problem is that when I set the multiplier to 13, it treats this as 5X, and the resulting speed is 700MHz (ouch).

Is there any way to actually use the 13X multiplier (and above) that is available for use in the BIOS?

Thanks for any suggestions you might have on this,

Jon

Your going to have to modify the L3 bridges on your processor, I'm not sure which one but I believe that you cut the last bridge of the L3's to enable 13x multiplier and up.

If you had an Nforce2 board this would not be necessary. I'm not sure if you cut or fill the last bridge. Bad Memory:mad:

DONT CUT ANYTHING .. Just drop a wire into your cpu socket . Make it U -shaped .. Each "end" as long as your cpu pins and the "middle" only a few mm's .. Just long enough to go from hole to hole .. The hole you need to drop it into is in the pic attached.. You should use ONE strand of ide cable wire or phone wire or speaker wire .. ONE strand !! Get some tweezers too.. Be careful not to drop it on the mobo - it can cause problems .. Tell me if it worked k ?

Ya you can do it that way too. By doing the wiremod it is the same thing as cutting the L3 bridge but non-permanent. If you want to do it permanently than you can cut it.

Wiremod is the best way to go. Forgot about that method. Hehe:)

Thanks for your response.

I thought that wire trick was to trick the mainboard into using a 166MHz. FSB. My board uses the KT133A chipset, though (MSI K7T Turbo 2).

Will the wire trick still work to let me use the higher multipliers, even with my chipset? If so, will I still be able to use the multipliers under 13X, or will this be the lowest I can go (while the wire is in place)?

Sorry for so many questions, I just don't want to fry anything, without at least taking precautions, anyway. :)
