Just ordered a 1800+ DLT3C:JIUHB:0311MPMW from excaliberpc.com. (I just checked there and they don't seem to have the item up anymore...since I ordered it this morning I must have got one of the last few I guess.)

I'm hoping to run this at 2ghz, stock volts if possible. I'd just like to keep it under 45c load. Or as cool as possible. I'm hoping this is a reasonable overclock to expect. If not, it only cost me 65 bucks so thats fine. Seems like unlocked chips are becoming harder to come by now.

Not sure what I'm going to get for a cooler, I want something that isn't loud like the volcano 6+ or something I used to have. But it doesn't have to be super quiet either. Maybe something I can put a 92mm or larger fan on. I was hoping some one could recommend a setup.

You will hit 2ghz....NO PROB!

I would go with a thermalright heatsink you might want to push the cpu higher than 2ghz.

Hi there. For a really good heat sink, it would be hard to beat the Thermalright SLK-800 or 900. These come in two flavors, standard or universal (SLK-900U) depending of your motherboard.

Good luck :)

This would be better placed in the Cooling Section. 2.0ghz is quite a modest expectation to say the least ;). On stock voltage of 1.5v, you should be able to hit very to close 2.2ghz. Your best bet would be an SLK800 or 900. The latter officially supports 90 and 92mm fans, however the 800 can also take them with a little bit of clip bending. The A versions use socket clips, and fit on all boards, but aren't a good choice, IMHO, if you move your computer frequently. If your board has mounting holes you may want to opt for the U versions which utilize these instead.

EDIT: Whoa, yet another case of being out-typed, this time by no less than 3 people :D.

Damn, brennan77...what kind of temps are you getting?

Gautam...yeah, maybe it should go in the cooling section. I wasn't really sure what I was asking when I started writing it. Just wanted to get some opinions on the chip in general as well.

I have a an35n...it does have the mounting holes...but after reading a few reports of severly bent motherboards I'm a bit leery of that approach. Although bolted to the motherboard must be a lot more secure than the clip...and would alleviate my worries of stabbing the motherboard with a screw driver. :)

I don't really know about temps. I've never trusted the mobo readouts. I have an SK-7, but I also have a mod that pulls cold air directly from outside. It's below freezing at night lately. :)

Sometimes my temps readout as low as 13C on the CPU. I'm not sure how accurate it is.

I can see clear trends in overclocking though. At normal room temps without implementing the mod, my overclock at 1.85v will be a bit over 2400. As the temps go down, my overclock at that voltage goes up. I've benchmarked and played games as high as 2500mhz with the same voltage. I believe the chip would easily run 2500 with more voltage regardless of temps, but my power supply and motherboard just can't hold up to the stress on the 5v line. Anything above 1.85v, and the 5v line starts going nuts. I bet if I had a motherboard that fed the CPU through the 12v line, I wouldn't have this limitation.

So temps do affect your overclock. But there's only so much you can do when it comes to air cooling, unless you do something funny like I did here.

I've seen several of these CPU's around the forums. All of them hit 2400 or better at around 1.85v. The better the cooling, the higher it goes. And power supply has a LOT to do with your max overclock.

BTW, my current readout on the CPU is 19C. The case air conditions the room. So I don't think it's far off. But take it with a grain of salt.

gotta love the JIHUBs, mine is @ 2.335 ATM with 1.7v ( idle 43 / load 51) My temps are a little high, but the room is hot. I got about 2.15 on stock voltage after a few burn-ins. You WILL be very happy with the chip.:D

i just recently got a 1800+ from exclPC. I went to get more on opps no more lol *******. But i hit 2ghz fully stable at 1.5v so thats easy. I cant get past 2ghz to be honest thou without uping voltage.

dam you guys make me wana buy one of these just to play with..lol seems like a awsome chip.

Wow, I just got this same chip also. 0308MPMW. Mine has a green core, and I have it at 12x200 @ 1.825 vcore right now to burn in. I love the chip. It overclocks considerably better than my 1700 jiuhb. Anyway, Just wanted to say that it is capable of 2000 mhz on stock voltage, mine is anyway. Good luck

Good luck. People having been talking about the ones on excaliberpc here for awhile, thats where I heard about them. I finally broke down and decided to grab one up yesterday morning...glad I did because it looks like they are gone as of 5pm EST. It's already shipped so should be good to go.

Still don't have a cooler though...just a cheapo coolmaster one. Think I'll just get a tube of AS5 from the local pc store and run it at 1600mhz on that for awhile...until I get a better setup.

If I can get 2ghz at stock volts, I'll be happy. This would be my first real overclock so I'm not looking for anything amazing.

Yes, that's an excellent chip! I've got one in an NF7-S rev 2.0 at 2.530 (220x11.5) on air. After building that rig, I decided that I would get 3 more of them. Now I'm glad I did, actually I'm surprised that Excalibur didn't run out of them before now. They've had those chips for quite a while. If you're going to push it much past 2 GHz, you'll need some good ram. I've got 2 sticks of Buffalo PC3700 256mb (512 total) with BH5 chips on it. Runs rock solid stabile folding 24/7. Good luck & have fun with it (I know I did! :D ).

I've got 2x256 of buffalo pc3200 with winbond ch-5 chips. So I should be fine.

I was actually surprised they were around as long as they were as well. Most retailers don't garantee steppings like that, and the place wasn't exactly a secret around here.

I installed mine yesterday :) Burned it in at 2v last night, but I'm only at 225x11 right now. I'll let it sit like that for a little bit, then burn it in some more, maybe a little higher voltage. Hopefully I can get around 2.7 with it, but I'm watercooled :p

2.7 is pretty lofty, IMO. I would think you would get in the mid 2500's with liberal voltage. That's my prediction. ;)

Also, I have had no noticeable effects with "burn-in".

yea.. I do agree with brennan77 tho.. watercooling is kinda vague.. there are many levels.. and a normal watercooling will not gonna get you there at 2.7ghz stable me thinkx.. that's kinda pushing it. these chips are great, but your chip will probly quickly top out at around 2.5ghz or slightly over. Anything more than that needs some radical change in cooling.
