Well I have good watercooling. Keeps it at about 32-33c at full load on 1.9v.
you'll need at least 15~ 18C full load temp @ 1.9v to do 2.7ghz stable with that type of chip. That's the good ball part figure. not trying to be negative or anything but trying to be more realistic..

Oh, take those temps with a grain of salt. Those are chilled air cooling and I don't have anything but the motherboard temp readout. So I don't know if it's accurate. I would think chilled air would at least be as good if not better than good watercooling in a room temperature environment.

Still, 2400+mhz seems like a pretty good overclock out of a chip rated to run at 1.53ghz. I probably ain't gonna be pushing it to hard like I said, just want to get 2.0ghz at stock volts...which seems reasonable based on other peoples experience. I need this thing to last me awhile. Maybe a couple years even....ok, 1.5years tops. :) I'll get the itch way before then.

2ghz - 2.2ghz is easily attainable with this chip whithout pushing it too hard. But in all honesty, getting that last 200 - 300mhz is really cost prohibitive, but if you already have the hardware, or can spend the extra bux, it's pretty sweet. I like to push it as far as I can (with air.....water cooling, vapo chill, etc, is too much $ for me :p ).

w00t, good thing I decided to bite the bullet and go ahead and buy that chip last week :) Now I just have to get home and build the system.

BTW, first post =) I'm teh n00b. Anyway, I've been lurking for a few weeks and I've learned a TON. Thanks for all the great, informative posts fellas :D

Welcome to the forums, A418t81. I lurked here myself for awhile before joining up. I learned a lot as well. Plus, people here seem to be pretty helpful in general. I've been on other forums where they cut you down for asking a stupid question.

I bet you can reach 2.4-2.5ghz @ 1.9V if you use a Thermalright slk-900A or sp-97 w/ 92mm Tornado.

I'm pretty much decided on one of those sinks, but those tornados are to loud. I need something that's pretty quiet but still gets the job done. I've heard the panoflos or whatever are good for that.

Air cooling is going to hit it's limits. It's good to have a nice heatsink that will give you headroom. But it's not magic that will automatically give you 100mhz extra. That 50-100mhz extra comes with the combination of decent cooling, a motherboard that can handle the power requirements, and a power supply that can feed it all.

Yeah brennan77, I'm still just planning a moderate overclock of 2.0 ghz anyway. That'll be plenty fast enough for me for awhile. I just want to get a good sink and fan that aren't to loud and will keep things running in good shape.

BTW, even at my highest overclock, I only run my Tornado at half speed.

I think you'll end up pushin past 2ghz when you see how easy it is. Under 1.7v is really easy to deal with and you'll be pushing 2300mhz with that. No way you settle for 2.0 with this chip. :) It would be an overclocking crime.

Burning in the JIHUBs is the only way to go. Without stressing my chip for several hours (almost days cumlative) it wouldnt reach past 2.0 without 1.65 volts.

After the first round of burn in, i got 2.135 @ 1.6 volts. 2nd round 2.155 @1.5 volts. 3rd with extra voltage 2.33 @ 1.75 Hopefully after a few rounds of burning, I should get the voltage bact down to 1.65 or maybe get past 2.4.

Currently 2.33 is somewhat unstable. Windoz only acts normally ONLY after a round of burn in. If I change any settings it becomes unstable again, and requires another burn in.

However IF I leave it alone after a burn in, its rock solid on P95. I know its been a topic of taboo and suspicion, Burning in chips / stressing for several hours, does in fact work. Ive seen it with my own eyes.

..also DONT BUY A NADO(i "owned" one). The sound is like nails down a chalkboard after a while:mad:

Im using a TMD fan with my SLK700...its workin great right now. TMDs are good cuz they have the smallest deadspot (besides a blower) than any fan on the market. Deadspot is the downfall of using a nado. the Nado only pulls heat from the edges of the heatsink.

This fan or a Smartfan 2 are tthe best ways to go (get a smart fan2). Smartfan2 from Thermaltake is the best of both worlds. Standard 80mm fan that ranges between (30CFM/25dbl -- 76CFM / 48dbls) If you want quiet / power in one handy package get this and a fan controller. With this you should be go to go

now......the only good thing bout nadoes is that it prevents heat from building up in the case/heatsink. IT WILL NOT COOL WORTH A ****. It only blow heat away before it builds up in your case. Dont expect less than 35c* idle. However Load will be about 1c* higher @ the most:D

But the Smartfan2 is also capable of this and is quiet too.

Heh. You might be right. I had originally said "No higher than 2.0" Thats plenty for me. But I'm already thinking...well, 2.2 couldn't really hurt it much...

oh no, tehy dont have the dlt3c 1800's anymore?! this is bad. i did not ordermine yet, i was going to this weekend! ahh! wait, there is still luck...a friend at school said he would send me a pic of a processor he was willing to sell me...(must check mail...)

bah, he sent me a pic of some sort of computer text...all it says is the speed, cache, some mmx stuff...

and "Family.Model.Step: 6.8.1"

does that mean anything?
