I'm pretty much decided on one of those sinks, but those tornados are to loud. I need something that's pretty quiet but still gets the job done. I've heard the panoflos or whatever are good for that.

Well if you are going to use a quiet low cfm fan like a Panaflo with a Thermalright heatsink, you might as well get a Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu (I have one). The Zalman cools more efficiently with its quiet fan than the Thermalrights do. The Zalman @ 2200 rpm (full speed) will outperform a slk-947 or sp-97 w/ a 92mm Panaflo.

IMO, 92 mm fans are not good to use for SLK-900U/947U, even many would think otherwise. I would use 80 mm fan such as TT SFII or 80 mm Tornado for pressing overclocking or benchmarking.

The 90 mm fans have higher open air CFM, but the effective CFM when working w/ such HS's would be much reduced due to the HS flow resistance.

Testing 4 fans w/ a SLK-947U on a Tbred B 1700+ DLT3C (page 16)

Comparing Tornado 80mm, Tornado 92mm and TT SFII (second test data) (page 17)

I'd just like to say that 92mm fans are usually quieter than 80mm fans when pushing the same cfm.

That was the impression I got.

I was considering the zalman, but it sounded like it was super quiet, almost inaudiable. Thats great, but I don't need it THAT quiet.

I've got a couple cheap cooling fans and moderate sized coolermaster fan/hs right now. They aren't to loud, and I'm happy with that sound level.

I don't need silent, I just need acceptable.

1800+ DLT3C appears to be BACK IN STOCK at www.excaliberpc.com just though i'd letcha know, i plan on buying mine as soon as i can get my hands on a credit card!

Not exactly cheap to the Average Joe for $65. But to us overclockers, it is a good deal. $65 for a cpu that can do a 50% oc and more. If I didn't have a cpu already, I'd go get that.

I'm likeing mine.

Had it for 3 weeks and just now got her in.lol I'm burnin it in right now.:) I'm at 40c idle--------->Check my sig.

We cannot just look at CFM per noise level or CFM per dbA, since the CFM is specified in an open air system. The bottom line should be CPU temp per noise level.

Depending on the heat sink and fan combined, the effective CFM can be worse for one fan, even its CFM is higher or the same as the other.

E.g. I found a 80 mm Tornado cools the CPU better than a 92 mm Tornado over the same HS SLK-947U.

For air cooling, adjustable fan is recommended for overclocking, as most of us are always interested in finding the max CPU speed using highest possible fan speed for benchmarking and testing. Then turnning the fan down to a comfort level with CPU speed lowered accordingly. After testing many fans, I still find the TT SFII is the one I would use for flexibility and price (unless wanting to mod a 80 mm Tornado with a VR).

I still thought it was a deal. A pentium 4 1.5ghz cost more and performs worse. A 2.0ghz p4 cost about twice as much. Of course you have to overclock to get that.

I'm just saying, seems like a solid deal regardless. Maybe not great at stock speeds.

heck, for average joe or oc'r....it's a deal, 65 bucks for a 1.5ghz processor is cheap and that same 65 for a 2.5ghz processor is just insane....i hope excaliber get's it back in stock cause i know that thing is golden and should be picked up

sorry, i was on the other computer, it sometimes does wird things with the cache and whatnot...anyways last night around 8:00 pm (i live in maine) i saw one. cant find it now :( sorry if i got anyone else's hopes up, i'm crushed :(

(edit)

the NF7-S rev 2.0 has a global discount on the 1800 DLT3C.
http://www.excaliberpc.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=25&products_id=866

that is there there, so i sent a nice e-mail to the sales service people there and asked if they would be restocking that peticular chip (w/ the DLT3C)

I'll update this again when i get a responce...
what do you guys think? wouldnt they make an effort to remove the link (its been a few days since the stonk ran out) from the other pages if it were gone for good? i sure hope they restock these...

oh, and i complimented them on there shipping method. :D
