OK. I just posted a thread in the watercooling area for advise on the liquid-cooling aspects of my proposed build, and now it is time to ask for advice from the people who really know their s**t about the hardware for my build.
Here is what I have currently:
Asus A8N-SLI Premium (burned out)
AMD Athlon64 x2 4200+
(2) XFX 6800GT's in SLI
Corsair XMS (2x1GB) DDR 400
SB Audigy 4 Pro
(2) WD Caviar 7200 SATA 3.0 in Raid
Antec TruePower 2.0 550W PSU
all living comfortably in the acreage provided by a Lian Li PC-2100A Case
I cannot simply replace the mobo as they don't seem to make them for that chip architecture anymore. While I am at it I figure it is about time to upgrade the video. And upgrading the video automatically requires a new PSU and the new mobo scream new memory.
This is what I propose:
Asus Crosshair II Formula
AMD Phenom 9950
Mushkin (2x2gb) DDR2 1066
EVGA 280GTX (not overclocked but including OC software)
Corsair 1000HX PSU
To prevent the mobo burnout in my reverse-oriented case I am liquid-cooling the CPU, both chipsets, the voltage regulator, and the video card. And probably the memory and hard drives just for s**ts 'n' giggles. And possibly using Bombay Sapphire as my fluid of choice, but the jury is still out on that.
Also, while I am at it, I have a few other questions. My wifes rig is an EMachines T6212 with the stock AthlonXP processor. Does anyone know if I can install the faster XP64 chip from my defunct rig in hers? Also, I was going to install my old memory into hers, bringing her up to 4 gig, as long as her non-ecc memory plays nice with my ecc memory. And last but not least, why is it that the 3.0 Gb drives running in stripped raid can only perform at 1.5 Gb each, for a combined 3.0 Gb? Was that mobo only capable of 1.5 while in raid?
Thanks again for all your help.
