I am wanting to get a 2500 Barton from newegg. Since it will be more than likely locked. Should I just buy a 2700 or 2800 Barton and just OC that since it will be locked too but I can OC it as well. Since the 2500 Barton will be locked probably, and I will only be able to take up the CPU FSB up so far, it wouldn't OC past the speeds of a stock 2800 Barton would it? And plus if I OCed the 2800 Barton by taking up the CPU FSB. What are your thoughts on this?

I'd check every computer supplier/store nearby for an unlocked, pre wk 39 2500 barton- it reqires some footwork and phone calls, but it's worth it. I found mine at a small comp shop, though I paid a bit more. You can call the smaller shops and have them read the stepping code off the processors, either oem or retail. Go look at a retail package so you know where to tell them to look.

Good luck!

I think you should go for the barton 2500 since it will give you a better OC even though it's locked, and it's still worth buying over higher price CPU's. The barton 2500 STILL has the best overclocking potential.

The closest computer store to me is CompUSA, which is an hour away, and it has the 2500 Barton for $150. Im not going to spend that much even if it is unlocked. Also, increasing the FSB of a locked 2500 Barton would be better than increasing the FSB of a 2800 Barton?

What do you think the max FSB for CPU I could get with Kingston HyperX Series 512mb PC2700 ram? Also, I am getting another stick of this.

Well if that was the case you should definetely spend the 150 dollars on the unlocked 2500 one since the 2700 costs about $170... and like i said the barton 2500 in general has the best overclocking potential.

The 2800 Barton at newegg is $136. And, I just checked. The 2500 Barton from newegg is locked. But everyone is using it as a xp3200. So I think I will just go with that.

Do you think my CPU FSB with the 2500 Barton could reach 200 with PC2700?

I agree....get the 2500 locked or unlocked. The 11x multiplier is a valuable tool for overclocking. You don't want one that is 13 because you will most likely not be able to get near 200mhz fsb with a barton at that speed.
