Wanted to find someone who has experience with (or can point me to a website as such) with dismantling the subwoofer / amp box on the Z640 speakers.
I removed the ~10 screws that hold the metal facia plate onto the rear of the sub enclosure, and was only able to pry just far enough to get a tiny LED penlight through. It seems the AC cord, or else the actual sub leads from the amp are keeping the facia from coming up any further (ziptied down?)
There's actually nothing wrong with the speakers or the amp, but I want to have a look at how the sub box is designed and what driver they're using. I was able to "rebuild" my little cheap home-theater Sony tower speakers (those old-school 5' tall 7" wide towers to go next to your TV) by judicious use of dynomat, plugging one port and changing the length of another and using a better driver. I picked up an incredible amount of <30hz response and got rid of a lot of the 150->250hz buzz.
This sub is better than the ones in my Sony towers, but could still use some TLC
