Today we look at the FSP Hydro G Pro ATX 3.0 1000-Watt power supply. The Hydro G Pro has been out for many years, but with Intel’s new ATX 3.0 standard FPS has decided to update one of its most popular products. Additionally, graphics cards have become increasingly demanding, drawing up to 200% of their rated thermal design power (TDP) for short bursts. To provide this extra power, a new 12+4 pin connector (12VHPWR) has been incorporated to ensure older, less capable power supplies aren’t used with the heavy draw GPUs. This overview will highlight everything about the updated Hydro G Pro ATX 3.0 features.

Specifications and Features
As we mentioned in the intro, the new Hydro G Pro 1000W follows Intel’s ATX 3.0 specifications and is PCIe 5.0 ready. As an 80+ Gold-rated PSU, it has an efficiency of 90% or better under typical loads. An ECO-mode switch at the back of the unit allows for semi-fanless operation for a quieter build. The 120 millimeter fan uses a fluid dynamic bearing (FDB) to increase longevity while producing less noise than standard ball bearing fans. The fully modular design and black ribbon cables help maintain a clean look. Japanese electrolytic capacitors are used for superior dependability.

Packaging
The Hydro G Pro comes in a colorful flip-open box with a ton of information printed on it. There is also a paper sleeve with a couple of QR codes for product links and an online power supply calculator. The front of the packaging lists all the essentials like model number, maximum rated wattage, and efficiency rating. The back lists many features, specifications, and a high-resolution image of the internal components. At the top of the package is a diagram of the included cables, along with a table showing the quantity of each cable. The bottom displays three charts: The first is of the power specifications, the second is an acoustic noise chart, and the third is the efficiency chart. Inside we find the power supply sandwiched between two foam panels. The cables and accessories are located in a separate cardboard compartment.

Several accessories are included with the Hydro G Pro ATX 3.0 power supply. The fold up user’s manual and 12VHPWR connector pamphlet are multi-lingual and provide critical information for installation. There are four mounting screws, three reusable cable ties, two sets of stickers for changing the side panel colors, and a shorting plug for testing. A black microfiber bag keeps all the cables together and helps prevent losing them while in storage. The cables are bundled with two additional cable ties bringing the total number of straps to five. This is a fair amount of extras for a power supply, and it’s clear FSP is not skimping out on accessories.
The FSP Hydro G Pro ATX 3.0 Power Supply
Measuring 150 x 150 x 86 millimeters makes this a standard-sized ATX PSU, which is nice for such a powerful unit. Many 1000-Watt power supplies are considerably larger. The black finish has a mild texture giving it a matte appearance. It is fully modular and has five flat 5-pin peripherals, three 8-pin GPU, one 12+4-pin 12VHPWR, two 8-pin EPS, and a split motherboard connector. There is a large specifications sticker on the top displaying all the pertinent information and a serial number sticker. At the bottom is the 120-millimeter fan and a beautiful fan grill. At the center of the grill is the Hydro “H” logo machined into a metal disk, and the back of the casing is fully vented. In addition to the power input connector and on/off switch is an “ECO” switch. This toggles the fan to the semi-fanless mode. The fan will shut off when the power supply is under a load less than 30% of its maximum capacity. Located on either side are the standard stickers with white lettering and a light blue “G.” This is where the additional sticker can be used to change the color to either red or green.

Cables and Accessories
In total, 13 cables are provided. They are the black flat-type cables, except for the 12VHPWR cable, which has the wires harnessed in a plastic sheath. There is a motherboard cable and two EPS CPU 4+4 cables. They have included a single 12VHPWR 12+4-pin cable and three dual 6+2 GPU cables for VGA cables. Two peripheral cables are dedicated to SATA power with four connectors each. The other three cables offer a combination of SATA and Molex, with one offering a single FDD connector. Finally, the power input cable is heavily insulated and rated for 125 Volts and 13 Amps, or over 16oo Watts: More than enough.
Below we have added a table of the included cables with the total number of connectors for easy research.

Internal Components
Disclaimer: Do not open any power supply units without proper training. Failing to heed this warning can result in severe injury or death. We have opened this unit, so you won’t have to.
This is just an overview, so we will briefly highlight some main components. With the warranty properly voided, we get our first glimpse of the heart of the Hydro G Pro. FSP has chosen to solder on the input power connector, power switch, and ECO-mode switch. This is the preferred method as it is a more permanent connection than blade connectors. The soldering throughout the PSU looks good and gives us no reason for concern.
The primary capacitor is a Jamicon TK series rated for 450 Volts and 680 microfarads. The secondary capacitors appear to be Nippon KZE series and have a rating of 16 Volts and 2200 microfarad each. Jamicon is a Taiwanese-based company, while Nippon is headquartered in Japan. Finally, two bridge rectifiers are connected to small but adequate heatsinks and plenty of thermal paste. Plastic is used on the sides and under the main PCB to prevent possible mishaps, an industry standard. Everything here seems to be of good quality, with clean solder points.
Fan
The fan used to cool the Hydro G Pro is a Protechnic Electric 120-millimeter fluid bearing fan. With a maximum rated speed of 2700 RPM, it produces 96 CFM and reaches about 40 decibels. This is not the quietest fan on the market, so FSP was wise to include a built-in ECO-mode. Also, bonus points should be awarded for an excellent grill design. We don’t award points at OCF, so how about a crisp high-five instead?

Conclusion
FSP has been producing the Hydro series power supplies for many years, and we can see why it has been so successful. They offer a high build quality product at a reasonable price. FSP also happens to be one of the top providers of power supplies for many OEM companies. The Hydro G Pro in this review is the updated model built with today’s demanding PC components in mind. It features ATX 3.0 compliance, PCIe 5.0 connectivity, and all the aspects of the original Hydro G Pro. Two models are currently available at 850 Watts or 1000 Watts to fit your needs. It has an 80+ Gold rating, which is not much of a selling point nowadays. However, most users don’t need a platinum or higher-rated unit, and the higher cost is generally not worth it from a cost-savings perspective. Finally, FSP offers a generous 10-year warranty covering parts and labor making it one of the best available warranties.
We are pleased with the overall layout of the new Hydro G Pro ATX 3.0. It is in a compact chassis, provides plenty of power, and features everything a modern PC needs. With the 1000-Watt unit priced at just $209 on Amazon, we feel this is an excellent price and are confident in giving it our highest award.
