KINGPIN Releases a New Pot – VENOM 6.66

k|ngp|n Has Released a……. Snake?

k|ngp|n doesn’t release new cooling pots every day, which is why we like to bring the news to you. Not to mention his partner in crime, TiN, takes such phenomenal photos they’re just nice to look at. Now, new to the KINGPIN Cooling lineup, comes VENOM 6.66.

Some of you might remember the old Venom pots, which worked great on AMD Phenom II chips with their total lack of a cold bug. This new pot is still for full-pot, cold-as-you-can-get benching, but now it applies to Intel as well since the release of Ivy Bridge and its (mostly) cold-bug free operation. It also appears to have a thinner profile so it is able to fit on more boards than the gigantic original VENOM, which had trouble on some boards.

New VENOM 6.66 will come in 5 colors. Black, red, blue, green, and gold (pimp hand edition). It features shiny nickel plated solid copper design base and anodized aluminum top sleeve. Comes with with standard KPC cpu mounting kit including black anodized lower mounting plate, rods, thumbscrews, springs, and shoulder washers. Its compatible with Am2, Am3, 1155, 1156, 1366, and LGA 2011 mounting.

As with previous revisions of VENOM, this pot is designed for full pot Ln2 benching. It gives really incredible loaded temperatures. 4 cores/8 threads 2v 6600mhz+ wprime is nothing for this pot. The tuning/capacity and speed is really…well EXTREME. –k|ngp|n

As far as availability, k|ngp|n says he “…will start taking orders on it this week once I get the website updated and pots will being shipping early next week,” so look for them at the KINGPIN Cooling site soon. The new VENOM 6.66 will retail for $275.00 plus shipping. It’s a pretty penny, but it’s also a pretty pot.

Our benching team has already been talking about it (in the uber secret lounge…shh!). Maybe we can get some of them out of the hole to tell us what they think. As far as my $.02, it’s expensive yes, but it’s also probably going to be one of the best full-pot benching experiences you can get. If you need a pot for that purpose and have the scratch to spare, go for it. For all-around full package, the Gemini with its multiple bases is still the go-to in k|ngp|n’s repertoire. For myself, I still like the F1 Dark; it may not get as cold as the VENOM 6.66, but I like slow movement. Just a personal preference, nothing more. If anything could change my mind, the VENOM 6.66 would probably be it.

This is more of a temporary cooling method for short term benchmarking and extreme ghz. Definitely not a long term solution.

The basic chemistry of liquid nitrogen is that it should not be a liquid at room temperature, and rather should be a gas (like the nitrogen in the atmosphere). So when we buy highly compressed and/or cooled nitrogen in liquid form, at room temperature that liquid simply evaporates back into gaseous form. But as will all evaporation, energy must be put in to change state. So the energy produced by our processors (in the form of heat) is what "fuels" the evaporation of the nitrogen.

Too many people misuse the term "heat." There is no such thing as "cold," only very little heat. ;)
