Fast forward to today, Intel has released a new lineup of CPUs, also based on the Skylake-X architecture ranging from the i7-9800X (8c/16t ~$600) all the way up to the flagship i9-9980XE (18c/36t ~$2000). The new processors are all 165W parts, but in testing these have pulled a few hundred watts with ambient cooling during stress testing. Due to increased power use, again we are seeing a couple of board partners releasing new versions of boards with even beefier VRMs and cooling to the new CPUs. ASUS was one of those and have taken high-end motherboard to what initially feels like a whole new level with the new ASUS Rampage VI Extreme Omega.
Today we’re reviewing one of ADATA’s new 1 TB blazing fast portable drives. We’ve seen 1 TB portable storage solutions and high-capacity USB flash drives before, but when it comes to raw transfer speeds they often leave us wanting more. The ADATA SE760 solves this problem by delivering NVMe performance with a USB Type-C interface. With a sequential read speed of 1,000 MB/s and compatibility on Windows, Mac OS, Android, Xbox One, and PS4 consoles, this new breed of portable storage strikes a balance between portability and raw transfer speed.
Corsair has announced the EX100U mobile storage drive. This small portable drive uses a USB Type-C Gen 2×2 connector to achieve up to 1,600 MB/s sequential read speeds and 1,500 MB/s sequential write speeds. Corsair also includes a Type-C to Type-A cable for additional connectivity options. The press announcement states capacities of 500 GB to 4 TB, though searching the Corsair website shows from 1 TB to 4 TB. Pricing for the 1 TB model is $102.99 at the time of this writing.
