CES 2017: Mushkin Displays New SSDs, RGB Keyboard and More

One of our stops at CES 2017 led us to our friends at Mushkin and Edge. Mushkin showed off a new m.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD drive named, Helix. It uses a Silicon Motion SM2260 SSD controller using 3D MLC flash. This brings speeds of up to 2500MB reads and 1100MB writes along with 185K write IOPS. The 3D MLC NAND is going to give you more performance and endurance versus TLC based NAND. We should expect to see this drive hit the market in the coming months. Read More

Toshiba OCZ RD400 512GB M.2 PCIe SSD Review

It has been a while since OCZ released their last enthusiast-level SSD, the Revodrive 350, way back in the spring of 2014. Since Toshiba acquired OCZ in early 2014, they have been working independently as a subsidiary, but switched to using Toshiba internals. Since that time, they have come out with some very good SATA-based SSDs in their Vector and new Trion lines. Fast forward to today and we have in our hands the Revodrive replacement, the RD400 in 512 GB capacity, which promises to be quite a fast drive. Grab a seat and let’s see what the OCZ RD400 has for us! Read More

Intel 750 400 GB SSD Review

Although we have reviewed our share of SSDs in the past, we haven’t seen many NVMe based solid state drives. In fact, only one from Dino back in March of 2015. These PCIe 3.0 x4 drives have been steadily improving in raw speed, and Input/Output Operations Per Second (IOPS), since that point and have almost doubled what we saw with the Kingston offering. We are finally starting to see new ones hit the shelves. Read More

GIGABYTE Z170X Gaming 7 Motherboard Review

In our continuing series of reviews on Z170 based motherboards (got to love when new CPUs are released!), GIGABYTE has kindly sent us a board for the masses in their Z170X Gaming 7. The Gaming 7 motherboard falls second in line of their G1 Gaming lineup with the G1 being the flagship, and the Gaming 5 and Gaming 3 below it. The G1 Gaming series (it’s a popular trend now to group motherboards for their intended use) uses a unique theme of black, red and white to set it apart from their overclocking SOC series (typically orange and black), and their regular line.
