Weekend Waffle III

The weekend waffle is our new weekend feature where we re-cap on those articles that have proved popular, as well as sharing some community news from the Overclockers Forums and distilling some of the best news and reviews from across the internet.

Top Articles

In case you missed them the first time around, the top three articles this week are linked below:

  1. Our stunning Visual History Chart Of Graphics Cards by Luka tops our list this week.
  2. AMD Radeon 6000 Series, Llano, Set to Debut by I.M.O.G. was our second most popular article this week. Thought it feels wrong to mention that article, without drawing your attention to the most recent AMD 6000 series articles, like Official AMD Radeon HD 6850/6870 Performance Specs and AMD Radeon HD 6870 and 6850 Review Roundup.
  3. Rounding out the list is our AMD and Intel Buyer’s Guide (10/2010) by EarthDog.

Both our folding and rosetta teams have contests going on, with great prizes like gift cards for online hardware vendors, a Cooler Master Elite 430 Black case and a Xigmatek HDT-S1264 heatsink. The Folding Team Frontpage Writing Contest is still in full swing and the Rosetta Team’s Rosie RAC Harvest Contest will begin in a few days.

From the Internet

The newest issue of the Overclocker Magazine has been released. Issue #11 features tons of hardware reviews and an article on Gigabyte’s UD9 vs. Asus’ Rampage III Extreme motherboard.
Our friends over at Silent PC Review share their experiences from AMD’s 6000 Series release party in Los Angeles last weekend. I.M.O.G. was also in attendance.
DCMM.de (Deutsche Casemod Meisterschaft) held a live case modding competition in Cologne, Germany. The winning team, which was made up of two modders that had never collaborated before, blew away the judges with their mod called “24h Stealth”. The full project log, video and a bunch of photos are available on CaseModBlog.com.

Can’t get enough modding? A Russian hardware enthusiast constructed a 90TB plywood server. The lid of the case is made almost exclusively of 120 mm fans, while an acrylic door provides easy access to the hardware. According to the owner, only three out of the total forty-eight drives in the system have failed.
