yes,

its a generally accepted rule of thumb that the cache on a barton is worth about 100Mhz

so why are all these people spending 90$ on a xp2500 when they can spend like 68 for a almsot gurantee 2.4ghz+ cp1700 on air?

Because they think they can get 2.5 GHz + that cache thing.

You know even that $49 guaranteed T-Bred B does 2.2-2.3 even if it's a DUT3C 1700+.

2.5ghz with barton would be pretty damn hard with air i assme...maybe some better stepping will come out pushing the limits a little more?

not at all.. the new bartons steppings are doing quite well.. mine does 2.3 at stock voltage.. with a lil juice i dont see why it wont hit 2.5.. im just not confortable giving it so much juice in the summer =d

there's something else you have to take into consideration.. there arnt alot of places that you can get 1700 dlt3c that ocs up to 2.4+. And the places that do such as excalibur normall charges 65+ and 5 for shipping making it 70 dollars for an OEM chip.. barton was 83 dollars retail like 2 weeks ago at newegg. FOr me that is a great reason to go barton and not buy that 1700+

It's also a reason to buy 2100+ T-Bred B instead of paying $70 for that 1700+.

hmmph, im pretty dissapointed with my 2100's performance, i can only get it to go at 2.3ghz but its pretty unstable @ 2.0 vcore =\
I run it at 1.7vcore just cuz i like temps under 40, but i really couldnt push this chip much further...If the xp2500 can hit 2.4+ pretty easily, then i'd be glad to upgrade...

So with the barton 2500+ its any stepping that does well, also with the tbred 1700+, any stepping does well, its just the excaliber one that will do 2.4ghz+

Don't be disappointed with 2100's 2.3xx GHz. That's the everage expected overclock. (Mine's 2280)

1700+ Thoroughbred B's that are DLT3C (careful there are also A's with this code) instead of DUT3C are generally said to OC slightly better. They can be bought at a premium when "guaranteed".

Barton's cache is said to be worth 100 MHz

2.3 Barton = 2.4 T-Bred.

I think 2.4+ is a matter of luck and other equipment.

2.3xx is great if you can get it, don't complain !!! :)

hm i guess your right. I want to wait though unitl people can hit 2.4 ghz with the barton cores (easily)

I've been thru 3 2100's and 2 1700's I like the 2100's better.

Here, in a post by hitechjb1, you can find some useful info instead of people defending whichever CPU they have with no facts to support their theory.

An interesting debate... 1700 or 2500 for the best bang for the buck.

I just upgraded from a 2500+ to a 1700+.

My KT333 motherboard was limited to 12.5x multiplier until I did the wire in the socket mod (thanks to www.ocinside.de )

The 2500+ maxed out at 2305mhz and the 1700+ is running at 2500mhz.

The Barton actually gave slightly better 3dmark scores but the 1700+ feels quicker in applications.

Unless you have an application that takes advantage of the extra cache on the CPU the 1700+ DTL3C is the way to go IMHO.

Nicely said LBJGH!

I just recieved a new Barton 2500+ AXDA2500KV4D 9770278251311
AQXEA 0327VPMW.
Green CPU.

Wondering what I can get.

Good to hear. I'm still debating trying it, or just using my 1700+ 0310. I can get more $$ for it without opening it... hmph.

you may get more money if you can show the thing does 2.4ghz and you don't damage the core with the HSF (not that a pro like you would chip a core... you buy em that way :D )
