Slow burner after xp pro updates

Does anyone know if any of the xp updates have been shown to slow down burners?
after I installed a few updates I tried burning a few cd's and my16x "yes I know thats slow compared to what is out there now" turns into a 3.5x.

before the updates I was burning fine at between 14-16x.
I tried uninstalling a few of the updates and it is still going slow.

Also when I am burning it slows down my entire computer. Everything is slow and choppy until I finish burning.

any ideas???

I don't think any updates would cause that. Have you tried reinstalling or updating the drivers for your burner?

Or are you, by chance, using different cd's than you were using before?

nope the same cd's.
I'm not sure what it is because it happens when ever I use the cdrw or dvd.
I formated once because of it and after a week it started doing it again.

I think it's in Device Manager, under the properties of your cd-rom, you can set between DMA and p10 or something, whatever one it is, change it. You'll need to restart.
