Just bought a HP a1130n, and added another 512MB (2*256) PC3200 to it. SHould be a totoal of 1.5GB PC3200, but the BIOS is showing it clocked at PC2700, any tips? I can't adjust the BIOS for some reason.

Thanks in Advance

I have heard of a lot of people having this problem with the Newcastle 939 and some of the Winchester cores doing what you described.

You started with 2x256mb=512mb memory at 400mhz Pc3200
But when you add another 2x256mb=1024mb it steps back to 333mhz Pc2700.
Use CPUz to find what chipset and CPU you have pre packaged from the manufacturer. You may have to change the CPU to a new Venice or Clawhammer to get 4 Dimm populated and 400mhz DDR at the same time.

I only run 2x512mb sticks for some the reasons listed.Next step is to fight the 2x1024mb sticks and the dreaded 1t/2t command bug.

Actually, it came with 1GB (2*512)PC3200. Would 1GB of PC3200 be better than 1.5GB of PC2700?
The problem is when you populate 4 dimms the machine would ran at 2T or lower speed(pc2700). If you could change the timing to 2T in your BIOS then you can run at 400mhz. If not then I thing 1gig should perform better than 1.5gig at 2700. The other option is to get 2x1gig and fill 2 dimms only. But this will cost you new memory sticks.
Try some bench marking to see which setting (1gig or 1.5gig) would perform better.
I try everest home edition software to benchmark my ram.

Well, I ended up removing my additional 2 256MB chips, and, sure enough, it runs at PC3200 now. A full 1GB, since I got a PCI-E card in there instead of my on board card. It runs much better now, crazy, thanks for the advice.
