Any users of this MOBO give me a RAM recomendation, I would like to get to at least 3GHz.OC on a E6600

Nothing too fancy or expensive just something you have working.

Specs say 1.8v and 555 or 666, is that hard and fast?

Notice: Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets Packaging

Thank you:)

Mobo, E6600, RAM (Still deciding on GPU) and the rest of the junk I have already in my sig.

that spec you quoted was released to combat certain performance ram that needed more than 1.8 (mobos stock) to boot when the cd2's hard launched and the mobos became available. People were having issues booting with nice ram because most need 2.0+

Since then the bios have been revised and ram has been speed flashed to boot at 5-5-5-x with 1.8v even when its rated for 4-4-4-x or better.

So you should be looking ram that is most affordable with best timings unless you want to splurge on some D9GHM's or better.

crucial ddr2 800 same as the 667's just binned higher

all these will do 1000's and are D9GHM micron, when you get into the ddr2 1000 sticks you start getting more pricey and they have the better micron D varient most the time.

These sticks here consist of promos or elpidia IC's and will normally OC to 900-950 range sometimes even higher.

Oh great rattle you have the same specs. The firestixs and the Gskills are the only ones in my price range, I'll go for them. (I'll stay away from the OCZ becauase they made me wait 6 plus months on their rebate.)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231087 Rattle you think these g skills are worth the extra $15? They look good.

Do I need to plan on updating the BIOS before I can get these working. Or is just a matter of changing the Voltage?

Thanks

i believe i'm currently having issues with my ballistix (d9gmh) where the mobo won't post because the voltage is set too low by default. requires 2.2v, and mobo tries to boot at 1.8v. so be careful.

Rattle expect a PM after I put this stuff together, I'll just need to copy every one of your settings to save me a day of rebooting. LOL

So its just a matter of getting in the BIOS and upping it then?

yea. my problem is, it won't post. if i wait 2-3 days it seems to post. but i have to change the vdimm immediately and reboot or else i'm waiting days again.

your one of the few with that problem of not booting still.

dfonda those gskills are fine, I have a friend with them and he runs 400x8 1:1 800mhz 4-4-4-8 with a 6600 on a p5b-deluxe ram at 2.0v everything else stock volts and hes in love, beginner overclocker hehe, he wont clock them though, I seen reports of 900-950, supposedly they are promos or elpida IC's

you'll be better off with the buffalos the guy I talked to on the phone said these are D9GMH

SICK PRICE ! for ram that normally costs $250 or more.

well I cant really say what the deal is most as far as I know they are spd flashes for 800 at 5-5-5 so they should boot NP, the only crucials I have dealt with were the 667's which were also 2.2v stock but the spd flash was for 5-5-5 at either 667 or 533. wa77zz is the one to hit on that cuz he had them on that mobo, also there's another fellow around here that has them on the same mobo.

The firestix are gonna be here wednesday for me so I wont have results till then, right now I am messing with a few gigs of the value kingston I got. 1 set sucked but this set is better...

Weird was the whole thread just moved? Thought it was in ASUS section.....

Anyway " itz" the CD has the BOIS recovery on it, put it in and boot to it. I'm fearful for you that you may have pulled your RAM out before it was discharged. Or something else electrical may have scrambled something.

Well post your results if you get a chance Rattle, I can wait on it. Still trying to formulate a bs expanation for my wife. If everything goes right I can put all this stuff in my old case and she won't notice the change.

Hey your at 3.6GHz with RAM you don't even like???:confused:

yea, i'm pretty sure the board is dead at this point. i'm still unable to get it to boot. i'm sure putting the cd in won't help considering the board needs to be working in order for recovery to take place. i'll try it though. i ordered some gskill HZ's and a new PSU to see if any of those were the problem. i modded the board so i can't RMA. this will be the third P5B Deluxe i've killed =\

i ordered a post card just to make sure, and also a new P5N32-E SLI Plus :D

Yeah I wish i had bought them when they were in stock last week. Now all my other parts will come and I'll be stuck . When I do get a hold of them it'll be overnighted.
