Is there any different desktop envrionments/themes/shells for XP as i'm pretty bored of this look

Check out windowblinds. Their website has a ton of pretty cool skins for use with their program. It does cost however, and I am not aware of any free solutions.

my favorite of all time is aston shell
www.astonshell.com
its worth the money, and is 100% customizable....uses less resources than explorer.exe GUI and is EXTREMELY stable

For a free but versatile solution you could patch your UXTheme.dll as per here.

I have a Windowblinds 5 license though so I use that and can't be any more helpful re: patching your uxtheme.

I tried Window Blinds and Icon changer and wasn't that impressed over the patched uxtheme.dll.

One nasty side effect was that my icons were broken once I uninstalled them and couldn't repair them.

I had to reinstall XP to get things back to normal.
