Looking for a mobo for a budget build. Probably will be fitting it with a dual but would like the option of upgrading to a quad while i wait for nalheim to become affordable. No need for for any extras like raid or crossfire. Open to p45, p35, or whatever since i'm pretty clueless on what mobos are good quad oc'ers as most of my research to this point has been focused on duals.

i had gotten the impression that the tp45 wasn't so great at oc'ing quads. funnily enough that was the mobo that i was considering getting after studying up on mobos for duals.

i think you are talking about this board

which is not the same as the TP45HP

Windwithme did a review of the board and gave good marks to the TP45HP board.

yes it still is a good board but for the cost P45 is the same and some cases cheaper.

see wind's review on the board

you may want to check out this DFI,if its not to costly for you

Abit IP 35 series was good
indeed it was but from the looks of thing Abit will not be with us much longer. is time to find a new home my friend, going to be hard to say bye to Abit after so long.

The TP45 has been great with my Q6600...was going to recommend this board to the OP too, especially since it's $100 now.

i guess i had gotten the impression that the tp45 wasn't so good with quads cause it lacked 8-phase power blah blah. had recently read some owners saying that the p5q pro could do similar realworld fsb with lower voltages, but again that board is almost $50 more.

well 8phase is prefred for quad ocing for the reasons you found. 4phase in the min required for quad core ocing though..

so are there any budget p35/p45 boards with 8-phase power cheaper then the p5q? i know there is cheap asus p43 with 8-phase but most reviews on p43 say they can't go over 400ish fsb.

i had seen that deal on the open box. my only reservation is that it's my understanding that open box mobos dont come with the plate for the back of the case.

Hmm...didn't take that into consideration...8 phase is a very nice feature considering how hot quads run.

I'm running at 450 x 7, but it took a lot of voltage on the NB to keep it stable. Not a huge issue for me since the TP45 has decent copper heat sinks and I have the whirlwind thing going on inside my case; but still, would be nice if I could run at these speeds with less volts...

Biostar TP45 HP

I picked up this board just this week from NewEgg for my old e8400 and I've been able to run it at 7.5x533 1/1 with (2gb) OCZ PC2-8500 and I'm currently running an OCCT 2.0 2hr mix stability test at 7x575 1/1 with (1gb) OCZ PC2-9200. The TPower and TP45 can overclock quads... maybe not as well or perhaps as easily as some other boards but they certainly do just fine with the e8XXX dual series.

well i picked up a open box Biostar board P43 based for $60. to my suprise it came full retail not white box like normal....l

I would suggest the P35 or P45 Gigabyte boards. I have the P35 and its a great budget board and OC's really well. I like it so much that I'm going to use one to OC my E5200 when it gets here.
