1.9 mobile p4 in desktop?

I am trying to do what the title says. Somone I know wants to put their laptop chip in the dekstop. They said they tried it once before in a dell though and it wouldnt power up. Am I missing something here? whats the dif between the mobile p4s and the dekstop ones? both are S478

For a P4-M to work in a desktop board its pretty limited for board choices.

What is the Mobo you are going to try it with?

Hehe im not new to intel. Anywho its a 478 northwood! thats why I cant figure out why it wont work.

Its quite easy. The pins that determine voltage basically make it turn off in desktops...you have to wrap wire around a pin, or just bend the pin off then put it back in. I had to do the same thing with my mobile celeron.

Well, it's not quite that easy. Motherboard compaitability is the biggest thing. Read more here

Actually, it is. Whether or not your mobo has a pci/agp lock is going to affect you no matter what. It really is as easy as just a simple pinmod.
