Ok I recently aquired a dead laptop (destroyed screen + chassis damage from a fall so parts are ok) from work and it has a 1.83GHz chip in it, i think its a C2D, its only about a yr old or less.

Heres the chip's info:
LF80537 T5600
7646B482 SL9SG

1.83/2M/667
Intel 06

Can this chip be used as a desktop pc? Im looking to make a small HTPC and was hoping they make desktop mobos that can run this.

Oh and the socket on the mobo's a mPGA478MT, dunno if this helps.

Sorry if this is a noob question, I havent done much hardware research in 2 yrs til now (looking to build a quadcore gaming box) and still am learning the intel side. :santa:

You can hook a monitor, a keyboard and a mouse up to it and just run it like that.

But I would advise against trying to find a mobo for that C2D. It is socket M, so you may be able to find a board designed for Sossaman Xeons that will run it, but I can't check right now because the egg won't load.

I'd say your best bet is to just use it with external peripherals, or just set it up running linux and folding!
:soda:

edit: I got newegg to load and found this interesting tidbit:
