Has anyone ever attempted a pc within a pc using an atom?

I have seen industrial PC board that is basically whole CPU/RAM/Video/IO on one card and connects to PCI backplate. If you're creative enough, you could dig up a few of those and plug em into a standard ATX board to get equalivent of having 5 or 6 whole PCs into one case. I am not sure if it would work, other than the fact no one makes a 5 or 6 PC to one KVM switch.

That's because they usually stick to 2^n ports, for some reason.
