Hi guys, right now I need a graphics card but I'm kind of low on money. My plan is to buy a graphics card in the $50-70 range to hold me over until I can upgrade to a ati radeon 6870 or 6950 later this year. I have a friend who says he will sell me the gtx260 for $60. It's been used for 1 year, is it worth it?
Here is a link to the specs etc: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130370

GTX 260 is much better, IMO than any cards right now being sold for 60-70$ which are most likely 4830 or 4670's. There was also a sale on 9800 GT's for 60$ (ended though).

the GTX 260 even out performs the 9800 GTX which was like 250-300$ like 2 and half years ago. Here is the link: http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-260-review/10

Radeon 4670:

Here are the radeon cards just to show you the prices for the low-end stuff.

I think you should grab your friends GTX 260 for 60$, you won't even need to upgrade to a 6870 until newer games come out, and by then I am sure things will be a little bit cheaper.

Most used ones sell here for around $100, in the past month or two. Prices here tend to be much cheaper than buying on ebay or other sources. So I would consider $60 a very good buy for a GTX260.

He dropped to $70, however it's the super OC'ed version so it's probably worth it. That does bring up a question though, if it's 8 months old, and it's been super OC'ed, how long should I expect it to last I wonder?

Edit: I'm pretty sure this card will fit in my computer but will you guys confirm it please? (I'm still a noob)

I've never owned a 912, but if its like the 922 which has those slide in HDD slots, so that your HDD doesn't protrude out into your case, then you should be fine.

If the HDD does protrude out to where you motherboard is, just put it down 1 slot to make room for the GTX 260.

Super OC refers to the version. It simply comes with increased stock clocks, and will not adversely effect the longevity of the card. Just like CPU's, GPU's come in good and bad flavors. The manufacturer is simply taking advantage of a better core.

Well, yes. I know that the OC version is the same card just clocked higher. I was just wondering if having the card run overclocked the entire time would decrease it's life span. Either way, I got the card so I'll just see how long it lasts :p
